Coming back down the M65 from Bolton, coming into Preston, im in the outside lane overtaking a van before the lanes merge.

You come over the top of the bridge over the M6 and then the motorway runs straight down to a really big roundabout of which theres only one exit to take and you go 3/4 of the way around it so you have to slow down anyway!

I pass the van and merge into the lane, not really 100% sure of what speed i was going, was paying more attention to the road, about 85 indicated at a guess.

White van at the bottom of the slope with two blacked rear windows and a small police sign underneath which was unreadable from any distance. Guessing thats my first 3 points SP50 isnt it!

Lazy barstewards, could have been somewhere its actually dangerous!

Two weeks wait now then, at least it doesnt seem to have any impact on my insurance quotes for renewal!

From the experience of friends with points, the first 3 dont make hardly any diff to the insurance - Just make sure you tell them. My old man forgot and then wrote off my mums Civic. Luckily they just deducted the extra cost of the premium from the settlement figure.

Only leaves me with 3 more though, not had my license 2 years yet... if i do get them then ill be driving like the pope, get a NA diesel i think!

Lancashire offer those driver safety day things i think so can go watch some videos and crap they spin you and get no points perhaps, or is that just for the worse crime of speeding in a 30!?

AFAIK its for "minor" speeding offences (those in a 30 most likely). I know I wasn't offered one when I caught my first 3 points (SP30), I was doing 74 in a 60.

Ive gone past camera vans on the M74, at 85 indicated and braking and not heard anything.

Yoy probby will have points, but I wouldnt get too worried yet.

Ah! You might want to invest in a GPS device that warns you when you go over the posted speed limit. Worth spending money on that than having your license taken away...

For motorway use? Common van sites, static cameras, specs locations are far better.

If it was 85mph indicated you might be OK anyway. Take off the over-read on your speedo, then you can do 78mph before they do anything anyway (depending, but general rule is 10% + 1mph) and you may not even have registered.

Don't rover 75's have a similar beeping sound when you go over 70? .

the home office guidelines are speed+10%+2mph.
but the individual forces can abide by,or ignore them should they choose to.

btw the 10% is to allow for your speedo over-read, not to take off AS WELL.

eek, id hate to have three points after all i can also only get six in two years. It's a bit sucky i have my TomTom speed camera database loaded, so this should help keep an eye out for those pesky cameras. Just have to take it really easy in the first two years.

Do you find hardly using any punctuation whatsoever helps you to avoid speeding fines?
