Just got my Intel SSD, Setup Questions

Hey guys just got my SSD this morning, looking to install later. What should i know in terms of settings etc.

Im going to be installing this hard drive as my OS drive after also upgrading the processor so it will have a fresh install on it, i will then wipe my old OS drive and use that for storage once the OS is on the SSD.

Just wondered if theres anything to do in this process other than plug and go.
 
install the firmware first. For intel drives, is just a bootable iso you can use to update it.

also make sure ur sata is set to AHCI
 
This is what I did:

- Go into BIOS and change sata controller to IDE mode (as opposed to AHCI or RAID)

- Update to latest Intel SSD firmware (requires you to create a bootable disk, so do this first)

- Go back into BIOS and switch sata controller back to AHCI mode.

- Install windows as normal (preferably Win 7)

- Once windows is up and running, update all chipset drivers and if applicable to your particular motherboard, install the Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers (sata controller drivers). This will give best possible performance from your sata controller and also enable TRIM)

- You can also install the Intel SSD Toolbox (latest version) for running manual optimisation (manual TRIM), though this isn't really needed ... but I run it from time to time anyway because I'm a little paranoid! :o

o wow thats a lot of stuff, i have an asus p6t if that helps filter out the motherboard optimising thing

and by chip set do you mean mobo or SSD? as dosent windows 7 auto install all that stuff, well it did for me last time at least.

I'm referring to your motherboard drivers. Windows does auto install these drivers, but they may not always be up to date, so I usually go to the Intel website and look up my motherboard chipset for the current drivers. Not sure if this applies to your motheboard, but I usually install the INF update utility and the Intel RST drivers. It's not essential but I do it anyway,
 
hey guys need some help, just set my satas to the setting for my ssd (AHCI or something), it set all ports to this and now it isnt working for some reason, am i only meant to set 1 port with the ssd attatched to it? can anyone provide me step by step on how to install the ssd as ive had to reset my bios a few times now : / thanks a lot
 
what isn't working exactly ?

changing the setting will only work when reinstalling.

if you try to boot and existing install, windows will simply crash and not load.

if you want to switch in an existing install, you need to edit the registry first to tell it to use the correct drivers, then make the change

im just doing the firmware update and wondered how to set the sata ports correctly, do i set all to the new setting or can i assign just one?

edit: the issue being once i save the setting a AHCI then i restart the PC it gets to drives the has press space to continue or control M to enter bios and it just stays here and wont go anywhere or pickup the keyboard to press these keys the only way round this is to reset bios and start again it seems

no the drive is blank all ive done is update the firmware. i changed the sata controller to AHCI and i cant even get back into the bios it just sticks me at the no drive screen, on the other setting however it goes through ok but i dont think this is usual. Note ive done nothing to the drive except update firmware other than thats its brand new and the bios is fresh as i reset it a few times now

i press delete to get into the bios it goes to load then hangs on the drives screen and wont respond to my key strokes, when i bios reset it goes through to bios since its not changed setting

also disconnecting the drive wouldnt fix the issue as the drive is meant to work in this setting
