Just had a phone call from Windows technical support lol (scam)

One of my neighbours came over last week and started to read out what her Aunty had done : "Somebody from Microsoft rang her up .............."
Stop right there.
I asked how far she got into the phone call and she had just typed something into the DOS box (yeah I know they call it the CLI now) and her mobile went off so she didn't actually press enter and then told the bloke he would have to call back.
He called back 2 hours later and again the following day and on Wednesday I had the PC on my table.
I honestly thought it had been attacked because it took 20 minutes before I could start to click on stuff.
I ran STARTER and came across the world record (for me) of programs starting up automatically and there were 78 of them
Anyway, got that down to about 5, ran ccleaner, ran Malwarebytes, checked folders and where I know dodgy looking files go and all was clean but it ran better but still like a turd.
When they got it back I received a phone call and anybody would think they now owned an i7 system.

Thread derail -
It does baffle me how people put up with super slow systems.
About a month ago I had a laptop here with around 60 startup programs and a boot time to usefulness at around 15 minutes.
My youngest daughter yesterday evening complained about her laptop but surprisingly she only had 7 statup programs but I did a few other things and got that up to speed.

I also don't understand how people put up with slow computers. Like people that say, "don't click to quickly or click to many things, the computer won't like it" or people who are happy with their pc taking about 10 minutes to boot up.

I can't cope with it!

I had a few of these calls over the last few months so decided one afternoon to see what they were up to..

After playing along for a while with the initial guy who was definitely not that tech savvy I got put onto someone else who was definitely much more in the know. He asked me to go to a website and download the remote access software there that would enable them to log into my computer and solve the supposed problem I was having ;) At this point I said straight out to him that there was no-way I was letting anyone remote access into my PC and he was trying to scam me. I then put the phone down on him.

Unfortunately though I still keep getting calls from them a couple of times a week so telling them you know what they are up to doesn't seem to get you removed from their database :(

I had a similar scammer a while ago and P.C cry baby gave me a holiday for a phrase I used. lol I always used the word as shortened down version of a word but some people seem to take it as a racial slur. I won't say what I said again but to me it was no different to saying Brit, & Aussie etc.

What was funny they rang me up saying something like they're Windows support and they'd detected errors on my computer. What was funny is I have Ubuntu on my desktop and my lappy is a Macbook pro. I was raging because I was constantly getting scammer calls. I've sorted now by adding caller display to my phone line so when anyone rings me and withholds their number I don't answer.

Today the wife gave me the phone, saying this man says your pc is running slow & they can fix it if i give them remote access. I cannot repeat what i said to him on here without a permaban. They have also tried a couple of relatives, so there very organised, and keep ringing back even after wild abuse. Wife got annoyed at me for swearing at him, bless her.
