One of my neighbours came over last week and started to read out what her Aunty had done : "Somebody from Microsoft rang her up .............."
Stop right there.
I asked how far she got into the phone call and she had just typed something into the DOS box (yeah I know they call it the CLI now) and her mobile went off so she didn't actually press enter and then told the bloke he would have to call back.
He called back 2 hours later and again the following day and on Wednesday I had the PC on my table.
I honestly thought it had been attacked because it took 20 minutes before I could start to click on stuff.
I ran STARTER and came across the world record (for me) of programs starting up automatically and there were 78 of them

Anyway, got that down to about 5, ran ccleaner, ran Malwarebytes, checked folders and where I know dodgy looking files go and all was clean but it ran better but still like a turd.
When they got it back I received a phone call and anybody would think they now owned an i7 system.
Thread derail -
It does baffle me how people put up with super slow systems.
About a month ago I had a laptop here with around 60 startup programs and a boot time to usefulness at around 15 minutes.
My youngest daughter yesterday evening complained about her laptop but surprisingly she only had 7 statup programs but I did a few other things and got that up to speed.
