Some indian guy saying he is from windows technical support and my pc has a problem that needs fixing.

I thought to myself scam scam scam but lets ask questions anyways :D

I asked him where are you calling from and what problem does my pc have that you can see but I can't.

He just said again I am from windows technical support blah blah blah.

Ended the call and told my gf lol.

I wish he called a few days ago when I did have problem :( lol

I did have a virus that messed up my pc and needed to reinstall windows :(

I feel sorry for the people who do get scamed by **(*(*& like him :(

@mrbell1984 can't type/spell as normal :D

i played along with one of these once and think i got put through to someone higher up in their scamming department (but i'm sure was just the same guy putting on a different voice) and played it right up until he asked to repeat what website address i typed in when he told me to go to some dodgy site and i said "yeah i typed in www[dot]youreabloodyscammer[dot]com/dontcallmeagain.html, used to get calls from them at least twice a day nearly every day and havn't had 1 since and was 3 months ago :D

I have these fairly regularly. Last weeks was rather good..

"Hello, I'm calling from Microsoft, we've been getting reports that your computer has been running slowly",
"Go on.. Who am I talking to?",
"I am a certified Microsoft repair technician",
"And I'm Bill Gates. Shall we skip the foreplay and I'll read my card details out right now?".

He didn't give up. Tenacious ******** that they are. In the end I told him I'd brb and left the phone in the kitchen.

Whatever you do don't tell them that you use Linux, they just hang up, no fun at-all.

Worst "i have a girlfriend" thread ever.

One of my neighbours came over last week and started to read out what her Aunty had done : "Somebody from Microsoft rang her up .............."
Stop right there.
I asked how far she got into the phone call and she had just typed something into the DOS box (yeah I know they call it the CLI now) and her mobile went off so she didn't actually press enter and then told the bloke he would have to call back.
He called back 2 hours later and again the following day and on Wednesday I had the PC on my table.
I honestly thought it had been attacked because it took 20 minutes before I could start to click on stuff.
I ran STARTER and came across the world record (for me) of programs starting up automatically and there were 78 of them
Anyway, got that down to about 5, ran ccleaner, ran Malwarebytes, checked folders and where I know dodgy looking files go and all was clean but it ran better but still like a turd.
When they got it back I received a phone call and anybody would think they now owned an i7 system.

Thread derail -
It does baffle me how people put up with super slow systems.
About a month ago I had a laptop here with around 60 startup programs and a boot time to usefulness at around 15 minutes.
My youngest daughter yesterday evening complained about her laptop but surprisingly she only had 7 statup programs but I did a few other things and got that up to speed.

Didn't know about CLI. What does that stand for? I thought it just became 'command prompt' in later windows, hence why you type 'cmd' from the Windows the run box.

I was thinking this, we used to call it a CLI (command line interface) about 25 years ago when I was programming in COBOL.

My nan has been getting these calls recently. All she has is a lil netbook that been used couple times.
All she says she hasn't got a PC.
