Just installed a 6970, and a strange problem.

I have just upgraded from a 5850, removed installed the drivers. Plug new card in installed 11.2s.

I have had no problems while using the PC. But if I leave the PC it locks up. (I have not timed it but say anything more than 20 - 30 mins).

I have a good PSU 750 Enermax.

Anyone got any ideas.

Is it when your monitor goes to sleep / standby ?

Is the PC "on" all the time or do you use the power management settings to put it to sleep,sure this is mentioned elsewhere on the forum as a problem.

I thought it was when the monitor when to sleep. So I set it to never go to sleep. I dont set my PC to go to sleep any more as it never wakes any more. So my hard drives are set to stay on as well as the PC.

I have checked the connections.

Yes if you read the OP it says I removed the old drivers.

With CCC uninstaller or Driversweeper?,

Normal Windows uninstaller (CCC I think it is)

It seems from reading previous posts that Driversweeper is the preferred way as the windows control panel or ATI uninstaller can leave bits behind.
I am running xfire 6870's on 11.2 and had no problem.

Thanx I will try it tomorrow. But I have not had any problems before. Maybe its the card version difference.

Before you try Driversweeper, get rid of your 5850 ghost driver first and see if that's the problem(it could save you time and grief if driversweeper or similar program goes wrong and you end up with a full os re-install).

I have set my OC back to stock and so far my PC has not locked when idle. Is this card drawing more power than my 5850 was.
