I'm not really sure if the thread title is accurate but i just installed a new SSD and now have my 2 raptors as back up/storage but from what i can tell they keep turning off and going into an idle state and then switching on/spinning up whenever i access them.

is there any way i can stop this from happening?

i get this on my secondary drive as well, it's extremely irritating, and isn't the idle up the process which kills the drive more quickly? i read a while back you can only idle up so many hundred times before it will cease to function :(

Power options in the Control Panel. You can adjust how long before the drives go into power saving mode.

i dont think not power saving will prevent them from spinning down all together (although maybe im wrong, i havent needed the feature yet) . Tbh someone must have written software that keeps em spinning if it doesnt do what it says on the tin, i could write a C program that would do it in maybe an hour, i'd just write a 500mb file to the drive and delete it every 15 mins or so, but i havent thought hard about it, there are FAR better ways ....

Anyways spinning down would pss me off too, report back a solid answer if you find one.

Only thing i've done so far to kind of stop it is gone to advanced power settings and changed "turn off disk after" to somewhere in the region of 3000 minutes
