Just made a new "Canon Rock" recording, twin guitars (mp3)

I respect your decision but in 79 I learned a valuable lesson.
I was prostituting myself on a cruise ship in a showband and after one spot a punter asked me which version of Easy I was singing. The Commodores/Lionel Richie I replied but he said it sounded nothing like it. After the second spot he asked which version of My Life I was doing and I replied it was Billy Joels and he walked away shaking his head. It was about a month later when we got home and the first thing I did was to get the records of those two songs and my vocal melody's were absolutely nowhere near - I'd totally made them up and it took me ages to sing them the proper way. I went through the rest of the material and there were other changes or parts missing eg Listen To The Music by The Doobie Bros had a part completely missing. I made sure the band and I knew all our parts before we went back.
You can mess but you've got to keep it real.

yes but if you had replied to that inquiring chap "My Version" would he have been so miffed???

I don't really enjoy many covers that are exactly the same as the original... in my view its pointless. That's why 99% of those Canon Rock videos are worthless... ok well done you can play some simple sweeps (in most cases NOT)... but it's been done before... you have seen one vid you've seen em all...

That's why I liked the OP's attempt to spice it up by adding a second lead guitar and harmonising! Much better than the boring old muck of every other Canon Rock!

However with my version I wanted to take that further, expand upon the harmonies to get some interesting interplay between the 2 lead guitars - to not stick to the melody note for note and to create a new version for 2 guitars both doing interesting (imo..) things!

I can re record a Canon Rock note for note though if requested :P Sorry I'm being a bit defensive but I think it's kinda silly to mark the only critism of my version being that it isn't the original lol :)

I prefer when people do covers exactly the same as the original. By "people" i mean people who post videos on Youtube and google videos, guitar wise people want to see people actually play the song and match the original exactly.

People get really ****** off when someone posts a cover, and they just noodle random crap over a song that makes it sound worse and claims its their version

The exception to this is harmonising stuff :)

and btw, most the canon rocks are incomplete and low sound quality covers, mostly played wrongly (or changed and made to sound worse unintentionally).
I dont think many people were trying to cover it exactly exactly :OD

btw, check out jerryC's live canon rock with his band

touche sir, different drinks for different needs... (office quote :D)

No one is right here I don't think.... both are equally viable ways of doing things just whatever takes yer fancy!! :)

What about Canon Rock with my harmonies AND yours triple guitar attacK? lol that would be mad!

2 harmonies panned left/right, original melody dead center - that would be quite something!

-Except carp I've just realised 3rds and 4ths don't like each other very much hahaa
