I have just moved house and am closer to the exchange. Im on o2 std package and am getting full 8mb.

Just rang o2 and they have done a test and told me I will only get 9-9.3mb. I have kept the same number and am now just over 1000 mtrs (o2 tech guy told me). And was about 3600 mtrs before.

So I though I would get more speed. But the tech guy said BT have most likely just rerouted my old line and not direct from the house.

Any where I can find out the line route. lol

The BT engineer when checking the line on install said I had a very good line. Under 1 volt.

I want more speed.

Thanx for any help in advance.

You should do better than 9. Sky told me I'd get 5-6 and I actually get 18-20 but my attenuation is only 10.

You can plug your attenuation and things into one of those speed checkers and it'll give you an estimation.

Anyone think he's being capped at 8? On a 33dB attenuation and 5dB noise margin, he should get much better speeds. I'd be expecting 13-14Mbps.

O2 Standard is only up 8Mb package.

OP - with a line attentuation of 33dB, you should be looking at a 12Mb connction, with fastpath maybe 13-14Mb.

Indeed, as ghost101 and Swifty55 have said, you're on the wrong package if you want more speed. Your line should capable of 13mb~ but you'd need to be on the prem / pro package for it. Afaik fastpath isn't an option with O2 so 13mb interleaved sounds about right.

With a 33db attenuation you either have some issues with the line* or are a lot further than 1000m cable length - more like twice that minimum.

With ADSL2 you might hit 14Mbit tho with those stats if your lucky more like 9-12Mbit.

* Have a look at some guides for removing ring wire and/or cleaning up internal wiring, also possible there a junction box somewhere between you and the exchange thats not properly sealed and corroding.

I know Im on the Std package 8 mb. I phoned o2 and they tested my line and said I will only get about 9 mb.

Fair enough, I don't really understand what question it is you're asking then. With your attenuation, you're likely to get 13mb~ max, so if the extra £5/month is worth that extra speed then go for it.

My point was I rang o2 to change up. And they told me I would only get about 1mb extra.

i have now done it online, and have

I have put my pre filtered faceplate on and now the BT fitted extension does not work. Any clues.

I know on the LLU packages they put you on a higher service and see what you settle on. If they could get you higher then I am sure they would do it as it means more money for them.

Didnt you shop around or just go with o2 as you were previously with them?

I'm not on fastpath btw.

The exchange is across the field about 800 meters away, but my line goes up round it which means it's about 2.2km, the cabinate and estate is brand new.
