Just Ordered My Q6600 G0

Ohh god i just reordered a Q6600 Go :P
with 3 of those fans but i didnt buy the Extreme120 becuse i have a resorator 2 LC system, im hopeing this cooling system is better than the 120 :P

Im running a b3 quad on an artic freezer @ 3.2 and getting prime loaded temps hitting 71-73c. The freezer seems to handle it but the fan really spins up to cope with it.

Am waiting on mine. Will arrive tomorrow...

Q6600 GO
ASUS Striker Xtreme
2gb of Crucial Ballistix 8500
WD 320 SATA2 AAKS
ST Apogee GTX

Im just *hoping* my Cooling can/will get it to 3ghz (see sig). Currently my AMD X2 idles at around 29 degrees @ 2.5ghz and loads at around 35-36.

i just hope citylink deliver it to my neigbours if nobody is in at home like they normally do. Sod's law they will take back to the Preston Depot.

My case fan is at the Royal Mail depot as my girlfriend nipped to the shops. But my Thermalright has arrived.

I dont know about the cooling but my striker extreme is a really pig for overclocking quad cores:(

Cliffy i guess im in the same boat as you.

this is my 2nd quadcore and im hitting brick walls at 3ghz (stable)

this Nforce4 680I Chipset is crap for Quads, It overclocks my Core2Duo @3.7ghz at a 9x multi, but this quad is a pain in the rear.

guess i need to find a great board for quads that will allow me sli + the 4 sticks of pc8500 sli ddr

seems tough lol probably is hehe.

why are all the great boards going crossfire only puzzles me...

Because they are intel chipsets.

I just bought a blitz formula as my evga wasn't living upto the high standards it set in the dual core arena - this was the A1 revision too. 335 was the max fsb I could get.

so i now have the Thermalright added and am currently running the CPU at stock speeds. and it idles at 40c??? is this right????

i have the clamp as tight as possible etc. so its all bolted down... followed instructions fine .... got the thermal paste on there.... nice thin layer.... but.... it seems loose if i push it with a little strength.... slides on the cpu in other words.

Its this normal... does it have a bit of play?

no but thermalright's website was down last night but i just checked it..... and had a look at the heatsinks FAQ's and this question was one of them:

Question 4: I purchased an Ultra-120 eXtreme and I have a Socket 775 motherboard. I’ve bolted down the screws to their tightest and yet the heatsink can still be moved. Why is that? Will that affect the performance of the heatsink?

The Ultra-120 eXtreme works with the new version retention mechanism not having the heatsink-secured-in-place feature but rest assured that it is still well within Intel’s recommended pressure and does not affect performance at all.
