The point is............................................
The origins are pre WW! let alone WW2, which you never knew.
No fault of yours you are not very good at history, so it is forgiven.
Massive error here.........., he may have used the quote but it had nothing to do with Hitlers Nazi party origionally.
Maybe he found the origional meaning and used it because of that.
The slogan was around in the 1870s, so it could have been taken from then.
Yawn etc,etc.
Please don't get me wrong i hate pete d and all he stands for, but you have to allow him,(even if you don't want to) his excuses, which is all i am putting forward.
Why can't he just OD on the floor of a pub toilet already, he won't be missed.
I suggest you read the book not chapters that suit.

I suggest you do that too. The words "Arbeit Macht Frei" could have come from the big bang* for all I and everyone else (bar you) cares. It isn't about where they came from - it's about the intent behind their use, which is pretty obvious from the song lyrics.
It's not like it's unusual for the Nazis to corrupt previously innocent phrases/symbols either. How about we start with the swastika.
We don't have to allow him anything. Pete Doherty has long since become one giant excuse and it's time someone gave him the treatment the rest of us would get - a spell behind bars (or better yet, behind padded walls).
* Yes, I know that's ridiculous. Just making a point.
Not many foriegners would know that the national anthem is taboo...
