Oxford Crown Court heard that McCalium confronted the couple after a row over noise levels.

That doesn't stack up with the charge of aggravated burglary does it?

Sounds to me like he got tanked up and went to scare, or possibly harm the old guy. Could well be when it came down to it he didn't have the bottle, the old guy did.

four and a half years? does any one else think that this is qute along jail sentence for what the guy did (or did not get around to) do ?

good on the old fella though.

Well, armed robbery you can go down for 20 years depending on circumstances and is treated as one of the highest crimes you can commit; other than Murder, etc.

Armed burglary ~= Armed Robbery in my eyes, breaking into someones home, intent to permanently deprive the owner of their possessions, threatening behaviour with a weapon that can kill?

I'd say 4.5 years is quite lienient, haven't read the article fully - but hasn't he been done for something similar before?

Either way, he got schooled by an old man and sent to prison. Deserved.

Even worse he missed, they couldn't have been more than 5-10 meters away

You ever tried throwing a knife before?
Me and a housemate of a friend had a heated debate about it at the start of the year up in Shrewesbury. I challenged him to get just one in twenty thows of a regular kitchen knife to stick in a dart board at regulation distance, he couldn't mange one in fifty.
I came away a tenner better off :)

What kind of pathetic little **** can't handle a 72 year old pensioner, despite being armed with a knife?

I watched with glee once as a sixty plus bloke knocked the **** out of a young lad that went for him after a car accident.
The old boy was in the wrong in regard to the accident and had pulled out on the lad, but you don't go swinging for someone three times your age.
Was quite sureal really :)
