Katana

2 sandwiches! Doesn't equal 1! Doesn't make a sound! The egg!

I think the real question to ask is what happens when you slice 0.9r egg sandwiches in half with a katana on a treadmill in a forest.

Are you gonna slice "Random Organisms"

I thought the question is if you want to slice someone in half

length ways or side ways? :D

Seriously, depends if you want to for display purposes. If its just something to show, then you don't need to spent more than a few hundred for something that looks half decent.

Agree, I got a paul chen one a few years back and even though its carbon steel and I cut my wheely bin in half with it (1 swipe *** lol, had to sharpen it for ages before it though) its easy to maintain and looks swish on the black stand I have for it. Cutting stuff can be fun but take some safety precautions first, ie wear some sort of glasses if your cutting wood like material (possible splinters) and wear some good gripping gloves so you dont do something silly :P

Turned into abit of a babble but you get the idea lol. I'll take some pics when I can be bothered and post em here

I dont understand why you would want an authentic one.

If its just gonne be an ornament then why not get a knockoff?

You cant take it out the house on ninja missions so the most use its gonna get is you swishing it around in the garden thinking how l33t you are slicing up melons and stale bread.

Anyone that is impressed when you say "Dude, its a REAL katana" really isnt worth knowing.

I am interested in the process of making swords, the technological evolution in sword manufacture is quite stunning. If I won the lottery I would be tempted to give blacksmithing a go just to see what I could achieve.

Can't see myself ever buying one to hang on the wall though.

Whos says its only going to be an ornament? Since we are not allowed guns to defend ourselves in this country i say a sword is about the next best thing. Maybe you live in a perfectly safe world tho so it may be different for you.

Perhaps you shouldnt do martial arts either because after all thats just dancing about. Its not as if you will ever need to defend yourself in this day and age is it................

In japan is steel is called "tama hagane"
It's pretty much pure steel, but it's the carbon and the folding which gives them the strengh and ability to hold an edge. (But more folds != greater strength / edge etc).

Unless the intruder is coming at you with an Axe, slicing the guy in half with a Katana will land YOU in court, silly i know, but it is the way it is. And you don't need a real katana to do that, there are plenty of Live Katanas out there that doesn't cost 4/5 figures sums which will do the same thing.
