Hi folks,

Just posting as a few requests/IMs from another thread for my 3d printed cable management solution.

Background:
In terms of cable management under my desk, got fed up with:
  • sticky pads under my desk that kept falling off after a while
  • solutions that 'bundled' all the wires together, that just become a mess of cables after a while
  • some had 90 degree edges that started to wear cables after a while
  • non-reusable solutions - ie cable ties that you need to cut and replace everytime.
  • some also had hinged clips that covered multiple cables, which is great until you want to take a cable out and you have to release all 5-6 cables at the same time
Solution:
So my solution needed to be:
  • screw mountable - so no more falling off
  • individual cable mounts - so it keeps cables separated, easy to access/swap and nice and tidy
  • No sharp edges on corners - no wearing of cables
  • Universal fit - ie fit everything from a 13amp cable to a speaker cable
  • 3d printable without supports or any faffing
So this is what I came up with:

And I've started replacing all these annoying cable runs:

As you can see - ticks all the above boxes and costs next to nothing to 3d print!

Free STL:

Welcome any builds, thoughts and ideas - happy to print some for anyone without a 3d printer. Goodness know you've all helped me enough over the years! (just IM me).

Now maybe I just need to work out how to add the OCUK logo onto this.... I like the idea of OCUK-branded underware ;)

Heheh! Yes indeed, although the puns are endless - if anyone prints some for themselves, I'd love to see photos of them in my underware, was pondering a 90 degree turn, which would obviously be 'kinky underware'.... life's too short to be serious, eh??

I like the individual clips

Only issue is how to deal with long cables and getting the excess out of the way.

Ah great thought, let me mull that a bit and can create a second STL if needed. Part of me wonders whether you'd just add a couple to loop back and forth.

I guess the other question might be how you guys generally deal with excess length in your existing setups? I guess it could just be a clip to let you group it together, just not super neat...

Wrong question to be asking in a thread about undearware/cable management?

Also lets hope no-one looks up What Katie Did, they might get confused.

back to the serious stuff, how much would these cost, printed and posted?

Nothing to you, kind sir - you've helped me with loads of stuff. They cost about 2p per print, so really nothing! PM me your details and how many and I'll get printed!

PS and yes, too much cable is hardly the problem, when they're too short, that's really annoying ... ;)

Now I'm gonna have to look up What Katie Did... Will I regret this.....?
