Keeping dogs

First i'd like to say well done for checking there breeding lines, not many people do that.

There just like any breeds and can get it from contact from other dogs and from cold getting in the eye. This is what the vet told us, so i didn't need to do any searching up on it.

To check if they have it, pull back the top eye lid and check for any redness, red eye or blood veins appearing, if the eye gets more red and starts to discharge a sort of white/green thick fluid then they have it.

Its easy to treat, just get eye drops from the vet and use them everyday, otherwise it'll come back.

As for the allergies you might want to check there diet, maybe change the food to something with less additives.

Many cases of skin disease are due to an undiagnosed adverse reaction to food ingredients and a change of diet which eliminates the offending ingredients will be effective.

In my opinion, use NatureDiet. No additives, no crap, just meat, bone, oil and carrots.

Currently giving them ProPlan stuff, aint really thought about it before, thats what the breeder fed hers so just used it on recommendation, vet said it was good stuff aswell, no theyre eyes seem fine, they get abit red after beeing out on walks but that goes pretty quick, vet said its usually just from shoving their heads through bushes lol.

He/she is gorgeous!

In my opinion, if your feeding them dry, try them on Burns. They do a variety of flavours and there all natural. There cheaper and healthier.

He :p will look into Burns, we did have them on mix of dry and some supplement meat stuff, but that made theyre poo abit nasty lol so stopped doing that, theyre weight is also more consitant now which is good.

We tried ours with a kennel outside but they hated it lol, we only left them out for half hour and they just played as normal then it started to rain and even then they didnt go in it lol so thats a no goer with ours, although we were only going to leave them outside during the summer months and as said before no more than 4 hours, would drive the neighbours mad :p

Poppycock. 4 hours? ********. Dogs aren't human babies. 4 hours on their own is a great opportunity for them to sleep, roll in the grass, enjoy the fresh air, sniff around the garden, play with their toys, gnaw their favourite bone, bark at birds, run all over the place like a mad thing, and do all the other fun things that dogs love to do.

Man i wish i was a dog, sounds more fun than lab reports and projects :(

Lol theyre funny as, when u come home and fuss them for a while they will snuggle by your feet and make huffing noises as if theyve had a long hard day makes me laugh :p

Well, at least we can all take one thing from this thread: the dog owners that profess to know everything there is to know about dogs, don't. Teki all that crap you keep spouting about Staffies had my blood boiling - they're among the most well-caring and good natured dogs I've had the pleasure of owning.

That 'clicking' you hear when they lick you is simply there teeth clashing together, as simple as that; not their way of taunting you with the fact that they could attach themselves to your face and never be removed. And as has already been pointed out, but I feel the need to reiterate to truly emphasise how little you know, there is no such thing as lock-jaw. I think that pretty much surmises your extensive knowledge on dogs (albeit your 'food knowledge', i.e. feed them only natural ingredients, well, that blew me away - it wouldn't surprise me if you were a self-acclaimed pet nutritionist).

And your comment about hoping that they no longer be allowed in the UK, quite simply, makes me want the lock-jaw myth to be true. I wish stupidity of this variety was 'bred out of existence' via dogs with lock-jaw.

Anyway, to the OP: Lovely dog :p ;)

I just did some research, which took me no longer then 2 mins.
And it shows.

You've quoted part of a Wikipedia article that doesn't even meet Wikipedia's lax standards.

You have, for some reason, missed out the section in the same article about how fighting dogs in general were bred to be trusting and non-aggressive towards people.

You also seem to have overlooked how brief a period of time some staffies were used for dog fighting and how long ago it was.

You have 2 minutes worth of knowledge from selected parts of an unreliable source and you have confidently made clearly untrue statements about the subject as if they were fact. Are you Cooper Lawrence?

Sure, I'd leave a human member of my family alone outside for 5 hours a day - if that's what they wanted to do. But your comparison fails, because you're not comparing like with like. Nature hasn't designed humans for a 100% outdoor lifestyle. We're too soft for that. By contrast, dogs are perfectly equipped for a life outdoors - and they love it.
That brings back memories...

When I was a boy, we had a family dog. A Cairn terrier, small and stocky.

Many times, I'd be out walking him in early in the morning in winter, with the wind so strong he had to brace himself when it gusted. I'd be wearing a T-shirt, sweatshirt and heavy coat, with heavy trousers and thick socks...and I'd be cold and uncomfortable. He'd he larking about, running over here, running over there, sniffing at anything that smelled interesting. He wasn't cold or uncomfortable. Almost every person I met in those circumstances was walking a dog, because that was one of the few reasons to be out in such foul weather. An unprotected human could die of exposure in it. A dog wouldn't be fazed by it. They're hardy animals.

Chris takes their dog to the vet for a very thorough physical, to make sure the dog is in the best of health. The vet examines the dog and then whistles. Much to Chris' surprise, a large black labrador walks into the room, props their forelegs on the table and sniffs Chris' dog for several minutes. The labrador then turns and "talks" to the vet, with woofs and body language. The vet thanks the labrador, which then walks out of the room.

Chris is about to mention something when a tabby cat walks in through the door that the labrador just left through. The cat leaps gracefully onto the table and stares intently at the tip of Chris' dog's nose before slowly moving along the table, staring intently at every inch of Chris' dog, right to the tip of their tail. The cat then turns and "talks" to the vet before leaving.

The vet turns to Chris and says "Your dog is in excellent health. There are no signs of anything that will cause them health problems in the future. That will be £400, please."

Chris is shocked at the expense and asks the vet to explain it:

"£50 for my time and knowledge, £50 for the lab report and £300 for the cat scan."

This sounds like mine and my wifes pedigree choc lab ( Lucas)he's 5 years old and he's a big dog 8.5 stone of muscle. But he's a complete softy ! ;)
He's a big part of our family and very spoilt!

When we first got him we kept him in a dog cage at night or if we went out for a hour or so while he was a puppy so he didn't chew the house to bits!

But now he sleeps in one of our bed rooms at night or sleeps on the landing.

Good thing is we live near a golf course so he goes over there for a good run each day. When he was about 6 months old people would ask us how old he was and we'd say 6month they thought we said 6 years as he was that big.

Here's some pictures of our Lab

Can't seem to get them to work using the IMG codes?

Aww bless, hes really nice.

He's a show bred lab right? Short snout, round feet, triangle shaped head?

Yeah he is though i'm not sure he'd sit still long enough for a show. Only time he's stelle is when he's a sleep and then he snors! :D
