Keeping “emergency” cash at home…

If you keep a pile of cash sat in your house, it'll have less buying power in a year compared to now. Literally easiest way to lose money
Not only that but the chance of when you get older, forgetting where you keep it and accidentally throwing it away.
This nearly happened, to one of my in-laws.
Was getting rid of a desk, luckily the FIL doubled checked one of the drawers and there was a few thousand in there............

This is a move to protect people from scammers and criminality.

What cash purchase do you now make that requires more than £100 that is legal and not needed for dodging tax (ie a builder)?

My grandfather kept cash stashed all over the place over the course of decades, we're talking a good few grand dating back to the 80s given the age of the notes, so you can only imagine how much it'd be worth today.

Air vents, under mattresses, hidden behind furniture. He gave an old couch away once and went running after it two days later when he remembered there was £200 stashed in the thing.

Actively looking to avoid paying your taxes or scamming more out of the government?

Hope you don’t need something like the NHS to help in your old age as they might not have the money they need!

AS i have said when the corrupt politicians/govt bring in means testing for the general public(not themselves of course)i want as little as possible for them greedy thieves to get from me
I have paid tax on everything i have earned during my working life!
Anyway i am out.TOOO many bleeding hearts/people too keen to appoint blame/crime here

I keep about 40 quid in me wallet for the odd time someone doesn't take card, but that hasn't happened for a long while. Although I tend to pay my barber in cash.
Don't have any cash at home, don't see the need. Taxi's, takeaways all take card now. Don't even need my card if using an Uber.

gold can be sold as/when needed in smallish amounts to bullion dealers etc
It’s a lot easier said than done… a friend of mine was gifted a bullion and is issues selling it.

They require proof of purchase and certification of authenticity, then the gold needs to be tested..

The costs comes out of the value of gold and then the broker takes their cut.

Never been in a supermarket that didn't take cash.

Tesco, Sainsbury's, ASDA, Aldi, Lidl and a few more I've been in over the past year all happily accept cash.
I assume Nutty means that if the till system completely fails rather than their card payment system having issues like MC having an outage.
