Keeping up with the Markles

The government have formally stated they have no plans to do so.

This is a national disgrace! I propose we all throw sickies so we can watch the momentous occasion from the comfort of our homes. By momentous occasion I mean the football, and by our homes I mean the pub. Better make that two sickies, might need the extra day to recover from all of the fervent nationalisming I will be partaking of.

Hahaha :D I concur :p
I feel a petition coming on :p

The sum total of my interest/excitement at the news, is that I might get a Royal Wedding Day (or in my case Lieu Day) off work.

Which I will spend doing anything other than watching the wedding.

In fact I somewhat recall for the Charles & Diana wedding in 1981, I managed to lose myself with a rucksack in the hills north/west of Lairg in Scotland!

What’s Harry’s income? Does he meet the requirements for bringing a spouse to the UK?

income unknown AFAIK - he will get an income from the Duchy of Cornwall (along with his dad, brother and step mother) which covers his household and expenses etc..

though given he and his brother inherited XX million from his mother that alone means he meets the visa requirements to bring his future wife to the UK to live

I thought about this when the Missus mentioned that she was going to have to become a UK citizen. Does she need to wait the prerequisite amount of time and then apply? Does she need to do a citizenship test? Will she attend the ceremony with the common folk? Or is it the case that getting nailed by a member of the line of succession grants certain privileges in that area?

There isn't a prerequisite time before applying, a finance visa is valid for 6 months and they can apply for it right away (well she'd need to leave the country but then they can apply) - it can take up to 12 weeks to process though the majority of the ones from the US are done much quicker than that - she could get it within say a couple of weeks of applying. She'd apply like anyone else and take a citizenship test etc.. would be interesting to see if she keeps her US citizenship too though - their kid would then be American and both be in the line of succession and eligible to stand for election as US President

Surely as the +1 to the royal party, she can go pretty much anywhere she wants on a diplomatic passports like other members of the royal family (minus the queen who doesn't need a passport). As such the normal visa process does not apply in the vast majority of cases, whether they wish to go on holiday or stay indefinitely.

diplomatic immunity on official visits overseas has got nothing to do with UK immigration law - if she wants to live in the UK then she'll need to apply for the relevant visa

if she accompanies Prince Harry on some official trip overseas she'll probably have some form of diplomatic immunity

neither of them are immune from prosecution or above the law within the UK

I am not talking about immunity but rather right to reside. My grandfather came here on a diplomatic passport for work and my father decided to come too and as an immediate family member also had a diplomatic passport. After my grandfather went back my father decided to stay and his status extended for a bit. Years later he got a European passport after marrying my mother and has stayed as an EU resident. As far as i know he never bothered with a normal work visa.

Regardless, its not like there is or will be any issues with her being American, at least not the same A Ed and Wallis :p

Yup and she doesn't have any more right to reside than any other prospective immigrant marrying a British Citizen - the only immunity she may have in future is diplomatic immunity when traveling overseas.

"Harry....?"

"Yes Madge?"

"You know how you'll never be King?"

"yes Madge..."

"You also know how your wedding will be nothing compared to your brothers..?"

"yes madge..."

"Guess what?, you're also not worthy of a bank holiday. HA!"

Buckingham Palace has today confirmed that Pippa Middleton’s buttocks will be brought out of storage for the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle next year.

Designated a national treasure following the wedding of her sister, Catherine, to Prince William in 2011, the bottom is currently kept on display alongside the Crown Jewels within the Jewel House at the Tower of London. Stored within a hermetically-sealed, bulletproof glass case, the pert deriere attracts over two million visitors a year, many of whom comment on its unparalleled symmetry and tendency to ‘follow you around the room’.

“We are delighted to announce that Pippa’s iconic bottom will be once again play a leading role at a Royal wedding,” said a Palace spokesman.

“We can confirm that both buttocks will be restored to their full glory by the beginning of next year, when they will be reinstalled at the top of Pippa’s legs and hopefully wrapped in something figure-hugging and slightly see-through.”

Crown Jeweller, Sebastian Christian-Smyth, told the Herald that keeping the bottom in pristine condition had been one of the highlights of his career, involving a strict regime of massaging, cleaning, massaging, polishing and massaging.

“It has been a great honour to have had responsibility for maintaining Ms. Middleton’s bottom over the past six years, and I have taken immense pleasure from keeping it in a condition befitting of its semi-Royal status,” he said.

“Whilst many people would say that it lacks the lustre of the Great Star of Africa or the historical majesty of St. Edward’s Crown, it is undoubtedly a national treasure and one that I will miss rubbing baby oil into every night after the Yeoman Warders have locked up and everyone’s gone home.”

The news has received a warm reception from the general public, though some expressed concerns about the colour of the other bottoms that will be in attendance on the day.

“There’s nothing more patriotic than a good firm set of buttocks,” said Daily Mail reader, George Simpleton, 56.

“However, the traditional British bottom should be of good character, round but not overly curvy, and so white and pastey that on a clear day it can be spotted from over five miles away,” he told our reporter.

“Now I’m not saying that bottoms can’t be other colours, and I mean no disrespect to the bottom that will be joining the Royal family next year, which I’m sure is lovely, I just think that the face of Princess Diana’s youngest son should only ever be sat on by buttocks whiter than the doves they released at her funeral.”

Pippa Middleton was unavailable for comment, though her publicist confirmed that the prosthetic buttocks she has been wearing since 2011 will be auctioned off for charity, with the proceeds going towards a campaign encouraging people with saggy arses not to wear leggings.

My understanding was that it required 5 years residence to apply for citizenship?
