Kerbal Space Program

Well I got into an orbit tonight on a good plane level with the moon, however it was very eliptical & as I was trying to circularise it a bit some weird trajectories popped up, looked like it was something to do with entering lunar orbit.

Next minute I'd shot out of Earth's orbit & was orbiting the sun, however I still had a bit of fuel in my main Earth-mavity escape rocket & hadn't even separated to my spaceship, so I used this remaining fuel to try & reduce the size of my sun orbit & get back to Earth. It didn't work, nor did using up the 3 tanks of spaceship fuel, though I did get quite close to the sun.

Ended up opening the hatch & letting him drift off into space..

The rocket I posted earlier today has just taken a Kerbal all the way to a Mun landing in 8 and a half hours. Then all the way back to land safely on Kerbin - total time of 13 hours 16 minutes!

Zoom :D

Keep getting into space closest iv been to landing anything tho is heading directly into a sun (shame ship just goes thro the sun was expecting a boom)

Had a go for a few hours last night for the first time.

Great fun to mess around with. Not quite managed to get an orbit yet but I'm getting the idea.

WOO HOO!!!!

Only got a tiny smidge of fuel left so I'm not sure they'll ever return :(
But they are officially heroes of Kerbin :)

Edit: Nope, not enough fuel :(

Quick question... To get back to earth from a successful orbit, are you better off aiming straight at earth and boosting 'downwards', or are you better off trying to kill your speed relative to the ground and let mavity pull you in??

Good Job! :D

And for landing I think it's better to decrease your orbit until your Periapsis is basically touching the planet...

Edit:

I watched this video, extremely helpful for starting up!

Great work Chris.
If you really want them to return, wait to the craft is at the highest point in the orbit (Ap), an Retro-burn (De-accelerate) by pointing the NAV Ball at the funny green symbol.
Once your Lowest Orbital Point (Pe) is below 70km, your craft will lytho-brake...
Safe landing.

Managed to get my guys to orbit a few times (with time warp) and then got them safely back to earth :D

Was aiming for land and for a while my predicted path said I should hit land, but somehow managed to screw it up by being too clever and aiming for the launch pad! Ended up a hell of a long way away and in the sea!

However, was very pleased with myself until I took the time to watch the brilliant video on orbiting posted above! Now I'm ashamed of my shabby orbiting!

Looks like I've got a day of trying for circular orbits in store!

Thanks for all the advise so far guys and that video is ridiculously useful so double thanks for posting that :D

Awesome, I haven't managed to land anything yet, but I haven't really managed to get anything orbiting either (bar the one yesterday)

Anyway my latest design :p

Too much power :(

I WILL get this thing flying before tomorrow!

Hahaha, quality!!
Your poor dudes :(

That video you posted is excellent!! I've got a ship orbiting at AP 698,xxx and PE 694,XXX!

Plus I've still got half a tank left for faffing about and then my final stage still has a rocket for sorting out re-entry later!!

This game is BRILLIANT FUN!!! :D
