Anyone here done the keto diet? :) Overview for the curious here

inb4 atkins rar rar etc etc.

It's been amazing for me. Cutting out all the completely unnecessary carbs and just eating 95% fat and protein has lead to quick weight loss, more energy, and decreased that horrible 'bloat' feel you can get.

I've just finished my delicious keto dinner which looked something (exactly!) like this:

And I still lose weight! Just me? :o

can't say i've heard of it, but after reading the link, it seems like reasonable alternative to the atkins, weightwatchers etc etc, and if it works for you then keep at it!

out of curiosity how much weight have you lost over how long?

Aren't you supposed to eat fibrous vegetables for your few carbs on diets like these, not just have bacon, cheese and eggs?

I've been on it for the past 4 months now, it's working well for me and means I don't have to eat boring food, though I do get cravings for burgers and sugar :p

4.5 stone since 2011... So it sure works :P

You are, this is just an example of what I had this evening. I regularly eat spinach (with full fat cream cheese and double cream, naturally :D) :)

Oh I get cravings too, usually on Saturday nights... For Domino's followed by Ben & Jerry's :P But manage to resist!

It worked really well for me.

but....you bust eat lots fibrous veg & take some fiber supplement or just eggs meat cheese will bung you up.

I could never do such a restrictive diet, I'd rather be fat and eat well than skinny and look at food in a negative light, like it is simply fuel.

One would think the reason they're on this diet is they haven't previously been so restrictive and have already eaten their fair share.

I could never do that, I think I'd rather be fat too :p

I love my bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, bulgar, couscous, oats, etc too much to cut them out my diet.

@Stuff, what's your daily calorie count on that diet out of interest?

keto dieting if done properly won't be constipating regardless of fibre intake, the mistake a lot of people make when attempting keto is they eat too high a ratio of lean protein to fat which can eventually become constipating. A Keto diet is a high fat diet not high protein, a ratio of 70/30 in favour of fats is desirable, 80/20 probably optimum.

Completely unnecessary to go full blown Keto for weightloss though IMO, infact weightloss on a keto diet is only due to a lowering of daily calorie intake from the elimination of dietry carbs. The op'r would be better off calculating daily energy requirements and following a less restrictive diet which included all food groups but at a slightly lower calorie count than TDEE. (total daily energy expenditure).

Go on OP, give us your calorie and macro breakdown from before and after starting keto.

Ok! Before.. The thought of kcals didn't... Affect my consumption. I saw it, and I knew how awful it was, but it wasn't enough to stop me eating it. There wasn't really a limit previously..

Now: keto doesn't require a limit really.. Eating lots of fat fills you up quickly, so I don't need to eat lots. Still, I try to stick to under 1800kcal/day. Macros breakdown to roughly <5% carbs, 65% fat and 30% protein.

Those photos about look amazing... Thanks!

You're still eating less calories that's why you're losing weight. Cutting out a food group isn't necessary, and you're missing out on some wonderful foods.

I personally think cutting out refined/processed foods is a far more sensible way to watch what you eat rather than worry about sticking to a difficult regime.

However, if you're happy keep at it - just make sure you get a blood test in 6 months, and keep your greens and veg intake high.

Are you doing any exercise?

It works very well in the short term, not so well in the longrun as its to restrictive.
The ketones make you less hungrary and despite what people say a claorie isnt just a calorie, several studies have showen than different sources of the same amount of calories can lead to weight loss or weight gain, going against its all about calories.

Prefer a more paleo diet, which isnt as restrictive, still keep carbs low at around 75grams a day to help weightloss, but you dont have the issues that come with extrem low carbing.

Whilst this might be partially true there are an overwhelming number of studies that show a caloric deficit of any kind results in weight loss. OP has lost weight because he's eating less calories that he used to. He might eat 'more', but that's just because carbs are generally high calorie for their size. Also these studies normally have flaws in them. Got any links?
