Okay it's early morning and I need my coffee turn kettle on and nothing my supplier has died.

This means I'll need to get my hit elsewhere maybe greggs or premium supplier Costa get them extra good beans!

However when did kettles become expensive! From £15 - or £80 plus it just boils water.

Do these also do something fancy that am missing?! Just need coffee I r sad panda :(

seems to have taken the computer case approach and started adding all sorts of lights and things to them these days. thing that annoys me is i've had 3 kettles in the past couple years and every one seems to need the cup hoyed in the microwave afterwards to get it up to a decent temp, yet every time i use a kettle in travelodge and the water virtually melts the cup :-/

I feel your pain OP, we've had the same issue several times over the years, also with toasters failing to perform their one job.

As an interim solution, a mug of water in the microwave or pan on the stove.

My toaster gave its life recently in service of potato waffles, 2am and a bit tipsy and fancied some potato waffles that have been in the freezer for months.

Slap them in the toaster on high for a couple of runs and job done but this time it was too much lol

I've had my delonghi icona for 8 years, still going strong. I'd recommend one without hesitation.

Surely the water either boils or it doesn't?

Perhaps it's the room temperature milk in hotel rooms that makes the difference?

The appliance market in general seems to diverge horribly these days. You can get dirt cheap tat aimed at those who want to spend as little as possible and will fall apart within a year and never perform well during. Or something bloated with features that you don't want. Simple and crap or overblown and (sometimes) not crap. Either marketers don't realise there are people who just want a basic thing but in quality, or they make too much money from the market segmentation. Same all over. I've had a fifteen year old TV since I bought it because even though I'd like to get something with a superior screen (4K, HDR, higher refresh) anything with that is also usually huge and burdened with a crappy Android OS, microphones and / or built in cameras. Fridges, washing machines, anything. You really have to hunt for something that just does a single job well, these days.

I concur, I was actually looking at TV recently and found myself rather miffed that I can't just buy a decent one, preferably Sony, that doesn't have a load of crap I'd never use in it.

The toaster comments made me remember the toaster scene from red dwarf :) on another note I have now had coffee and I think I'll get some toast as it's been mentioned.
