Basically for a grand you can have more fun that you wold at your local pub in 6 months. Expenditure is similar!

If things get slow just throw in another 570... or upgrade to 680gtx... Thats how smart I am!

*wanders into here by accident*

Am I right in thinking that nobody does SLI, that overclocking only ever adds a few percent anyway and that with a tiny hard drive he doesn't actually need a bluray writer ?

If so, halve the cost of the case, motherboard, power supply and the fan and buy an i7, so really that's starting from scratch again.

I swear building PC's these days is nothing to do with function but all about following geek fashion - spend £115 on a PSU, that was daft 8 years ago and it's daft now.

bits you got me wrong buddy. My kick ass system is all about function. Funcation as it will be for next 5 year easy.

How? by the use of i7 cpu's that i put in this high end board and gfx that support x16 pci... once the right time is here.

As you look at the future you will see my build is way ahead of current time.

/facepalm

Your system if anything is behind current times by a long shot.

It wont play the latest demanding games at max res on ultra either, better get back to the drawing board with that comment.

My system is now behind the times, but it makes yours look like its from the 90s, please do some research when building your first computer.

How can my system be behind times when it can play all at high resolutions if i crank that i2500 k to 5ghz and oc a bit 570 gfx...? I am bewildered by your pungent remarks Evo. Can you justify your self?

Oh and yes i have started to build this system and have bought 2 components already (case & psu)

Why not just ditch the 570 and save for a 680? Or even up the current multi card budget and get a pair of 580's? Pretty sure OcUK were selling 580's for around £280 a card last week.

You are also very very optimistic on getting a 2500K to 5ghz, the fact remains that very few SB chips will hit 5ghz at reasonable enough volts on air. While on the subject of chips, as you are yet to buy anything meaningful, why don't you hold out a few weeks, grab a Z77 board and a 3750K?

I have a feeling you may be in for a shock when you decide to start gaming at anything above 1680x1050 with everything maxed out with the build you have so far.

I'd love to do that by my budget is around 1000 pounds only. And within that budget current system specs seem kick ass.

In which case good luck to you.

Though I have to agree with some other posts, it wouldn't hurt to head over to general hardware and get some help with better spec. For example I would ditch the 570 over something like the 7850 or the 448 core 560Ti, I really don't see any appeal in owning a 570 unless its the 2.5gb version.

Remember you also need to factor in the cost of fans, cables, monitoring, storage discs (you're not playing a wide range of games on a 128gb drive), mouse, keyboard, sound cards, speakers, headset. If you want it to be kick ass on a grand budget you don't want to cut any corners or buy something purely because it fits the budget.

What I would do is split that grand 60/40. Take £600 for cpu, motherboard, ram and graphics, then the other £400 for cooling, power etc...even do the build gradually so you can keep topping your budget up, my initial build started with £400 (chip board and ram) and has been getting invested in since last may, I've now spent close to £3k on it, and 10 months later near completion.

Pgi you have given me good advice i feel. 448 core 560Ti vs 570 is very close. But 448 core 560Ti seems about 5% better.

We also share same asus p8z68 v motherb. I dont need extra few sata/usb's.

Please care to share more tips... you are very welcome.

I do have monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers and headset already.

Also will primarly play 2 games: bf3 and diablo III.

19 inch 1440x900 or so...

PGI are you taking the mickey. You are recommending WORSE cooler, matherb, storage and optical storage. I know its 1st april but cmon man... am not that dumb.

Although it pains me to say it, the cooler you had at first was right, even though it was for LGA2011 because you can request the LGA1155 bracket from Noctua for free. The Noctua NH-D14 2011 is better than than the original NH-D14 for 1155 etc because the 2011 model has its most recent fans which have been refreshed with PWM type. However, you've also been recommended the K2 which is on a par performance wise and is cheaper. You could also look at the Thermalright Silver Arrow which is slightly better than the K2 and NH-D14's as it is slightly quieter according to the review at Vortez.

Glad you seen the light to dirty your hands with Intel as I was wondering how you were going to fit an AMD into that z68 motherboard. :D

Silver arrow may be good but not as good as d14. See this test:
http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/cases_cooling/thermalright_silver_arrow_vs_noctua_nh-d14/2

Have you read this review as there is very little between the d14 & k2. The k2 is quite a bit cheaper too.

http://www.vortez.net/articles_pages/alpenfoehn_k2_cpu_cooler_revisited,10.html

K2 seems very able and up there with top coolers. And as i know there are people on this forum with far more superior knowledge than my self, I gladly do take on their expert advice. But only when it is a right advice.

Seeing that k2 has beaten d14 in about 90% of tests I has earned my number 1 choice for cooler for my i2500k. + it is 20 quid cheaper = about 10 pints for me and my mates... Nice one woc...

I do not climb to know it all, in fact on the opposite. I come here to learn even more. And very much appreciate patient and kind people such as thenewoc who share their expertise with me.

What I am making clear ladies and gents is that my system is kick ass within that price range (taking on anything you throw at it at decent resolutions earns my 'kick ass' stamp of approval.).

Anyway now I am having really hard time choosing between more ethical company k2 or noctula d14... Just like before between memory of crucial and kingston. Upon doing my research i have chosen kingston which at least on their site officialy claims to be doing many green steps as opposed to crucial that has nothing on eco manufacturing.

If anyone know something on this matter of which k2 or d14 is more eco please bring your knowledge forward as it will be very appreciated and contribute significantly to making my system truly KICK ASS.

i HAVE already bough haf x & hx750 for now... In future I may get hx1000 but for now it will do... and 128 m4 is fine for me. Believe it or now I have used for past 3 years 100gb drive just fine. As to the motherboard asus p8z68 v is at moment best one at the 150 mark imho. And if someone is going to suggest a better one please outline the benefits that outdo this board clearly. Thanks

Just to update everyone on current status of my Kick ass build.

I have already bought following:

haf x case
hx750

I am going to get further:

i2500k
asus p8z68 v - I feel this is the best bang for back board there is currently.
kingston dual channel 8gb
128 ssd m4
440 560ti - which was recommended over 570 gtx. I am only looking at nvidia (please do not suggest other gfx's)

I am struggling to choose more ethical brand of cooler, between k2 and D14.
I am trying to make my kick ass rig as green as possible and as fast as possible at same time. If thats possible at all.

If you are going to recommend a component please outline benefits over current specs clearly. I am building new pc first time over 5 years.

Thanks.
