Killer Instinct DX12 benchmarks

Think I may go for a Polaris instead of Pascal in a few months time. AMD cards seem to be supported for longer and being in all the consoles and being on 14nm will give them nice advantage.

Also less headache with AMD drivers these days, unless you are a poor sod who has multi gpu that is.

Besides, makes sense to buy AMD this time round for me. Need to get their market share up, which will benefit us all. Unless AMD mess it up by pricing it badly, they will likely have my money this round :D

Even if Nvidia dropped two new excellent performing DX12 GPUs, all there older line up will still be effected..
We could see benchmarks only showing latest Nvidia cards doing well, while AMD will have a massive line up of GPUs performing well.

It would not be a nice sight for Nvidia!

AMD have been working on this for years and it might now be starting to pay off for them. Leading DX12 and VR two biggest things in PC gaming right now.

Well done to AMD :D

Kinda pointless if the game runs well regardless of gfx card, if its anything like sf4 was then even old hardware would run it 60fps probably maxed out.

It may be pointless for this game alone but the benchmark is another that's going with the trend.

At this stage unless nVidia just aren't focusing on DX12 improvements yet in their drivers it looks like AMD hardware is the better choice for DX12. If this is the case and they know it they should be doing all they can to get their figures out there as it could improve sales on their current cards never mind the ones we're waiting on.

Very few of us upgrade every generation so if they can showcase the Fury and 3 series cards to be a better choice for the next few years they can benefit now.

Thing is even if NV drops new GPUs which are better in DX12 that won't affect the ports like this which are just pulled directly from console, and don't have NV optimization/code path, only GCN.

or nvidia know dx12 is a waste of time and just a sales pitch for the other side ;)

i haven't seen one decent title listed for dx12 yet.those benchmarks are pretty hilarious.

Is that why Nvidia were pushing there DX12 advantage over AMD not so long ago in the form that they support DX12.1. They just failed to say that while they support it, the support is looking to be rather bad. DX12 is the future and will only pick up more traction as time goes on. AMD look to be exploiting this at an early stage.

It's a win win situation for AMD users who bought any GCN card. Even the old 7000 series are kicking backside in the latest DX12 games which means the driver optimisation has filtered through to all GCN based gpu's regardless of age. With Polaris and Vega also being based on GCN it bodes well for the future even if you still have a 7950.

What counts as a decent title in your eyes then? DX12 has gone into all the major engines. Rise of the tomb raider, Gears stupid edition, Hitman, Quantum Break, Deus Ex, Star Citizen. Most of those would be considered either AAA titles or a remastered version of an AAA title. What makes these games not decent?

As TheRealDeal says, Nvidia couldn't shut up about DX12... right up until DX12 titles started to come out. They also couldn't shut up about how more of their cards supported DX12 than AMDs, now they can't seem to stop saying "support for that DX12 feature will come in a future driver", be that async or DX12 at all in the case of Fermi.

Couldn't have said it any better.

Slowly but surely dx 12 is going to take over dx 11 just like all the previous versions.

EDIT:

I also wouldn't be surprised if all future DICE games have dx 12 too.

EDIT:

Pmsl @ this thread, hilarious! :D

Some replies certainly are stunning

Yes yes... nvidia fanboys tears are flowing...wipe them away with your expensive paperweight AKA GTX 980ti.

Jokes aside and being serious though, I have a 7970GHZ looking in market for a new gfx card to run black desert online a bit better... saying that the 290 does well in black desert it's up there near the 980. Maybe I could just puck up a 2nd hand one. I was also looking at GTX 970.... maybe a 2nd hand 980 from MM.

Why the hell is it doing okay in these benchmarks but I get frame drops on BDO. Yeah yeah I know DX12.... still bah

It's annoying how gpus vary from game to game... pah.

Absolutely pointless thread with guys jumped to conclusions!

Killer Instinct V1.0 was released with bugs such as very high refresh rate people reported just like gamegpu benchmarks showed which was actually wrong, the game frame was supposed locked at 60fps.

I downloaded Killer Instinct 30 mins ago, don't know it was free on Windows Store, ran it and checked version now updated to V1.0.4 on main menu. Played through and fps was locked at 60fps with Dxtory utility now supported DirectX 12.

I read the article and it's refresh locked. They used a 144hz monitor so there maximum fps was 144fps. So the article is fine where fps is concerned. Even at 4k where they can't come close to 144fps the 290x is only 10% slower. AMD clearly run better in this DX12 game end of story.

Seems like AMD only do well in situations where fps is so low for both camps, it makes no difference, or fps is so high for both camps, it still doesn't make any difference.

Just wanted to throw a little green into all the red ***** being squirted around in this thread.

Dont jump at people so fast when you dont fully understand yourself young skywalker.

Windows 10 store games are locked to the refresh rate not a hard locked frame rate. so 60hz = 60fps 144hz = 144fps
In May MS will be removing this feature.

So the benchmark in this thread is correct. Even In QB AMD is smashing Nvidia and thats also using both vendors Game Ready Drivers.

They in no doubt that AMD is running ahead with DX12 man.

Head over to the DigitalFoundry Thread and watch QB video
