How exactly have they done the AA, I was under the impression that the PS3 basically wasn't capable of it, or have devs just been too lazy to implement it?

Not played ratchet and clank? One of the cleanest images this gen, only reason multiplatforms PS3 games dont always have as much AA as the 360 is the GPU in the 360 has a few megs of high speed ram so AA can be done without much of a hit on performance.

Yes, the PS3 can do AA of course, it's just a performance hit.

One game, which one it was escapes me at the moment, used SPEs to do the AA, so no performance hit was made of the main CPU or GPU. Was it Uncharted?

Anyway, I guess so long as a game is written exclusively for the PS3, then it could use this method, whereas a game that's written multiplatform, would have to forgo this technique.

I know this is a bit old, but here's a PDF of some technical blurb (blurb being the technical term for technical blurb) for Killzone 2, for those who are interested.

Code:

EDIT: and speaking of AA, I thought Motorstorm 2 looked particularly clean as well :)

EDIT2: and here's an old list of some games, with their actual res, and AA used

Code:

Now I think about it though, I think nearly all of the recent games I've bought have had a healthy amount of AA. They're certainly looking better than they used to.

Killzone 2 uses a deferred rendering engine, the Cell's SPEs calculate MSAA (Multisample Anti Aliasing) and lighting.

and whilst on the subject of using SPEs to offload work, or get more performance, here's a list of games, including the already mentioned Killzone 2, and what they use the SPEs for. As has been discussed in the past, it'll be interesting to see how games look, and what AI and Physics are like, when the devs use the SPEs more. Again though, I guess this will only be of advantage for exclusive PS3 games, as multiplatform games won't be able to take advantage of the SPEs.

Looked a bit laggy, everyone running was kinda jumping forward a bit at a time, also people died like a good second after being shot ;/

I just got my latest copy of games(tm) delivered.

They've given Killzone 2 8/10. "Beautiful and tactical, yet totally traditional". "Better than Killzone, worse than COD4."

For reference they gave Halo Wars 7, Fear 2 8 and Disgaea 3 (PS3 exclusive) 9.

uhhh what? What a total retarded way to rate a game. What if you don't like COD4 but like Kllzone 2? I hated cod4 single player but liked the MP.

They do a better than worse than section for most games.

They do say a lot of nice things about Killzone 2 (8 is a very good score for them) and I'd love to play it.

I'm really teetering on the edge to buy a PS3 for this LBP and Flower but the price is still giving me a headache...

Sony PlayStation 3 PS3 Console with 80GB HDD + Killzone 2 - £289.99 Free Delivery
Sony PlayStation 3 PS3 Console with 80GB HDD + Street Fighter IV - £289.99 Free Delivery

Those are pretty damn good deals.

Worse than CoD4?

God I'm sick of the overrated **** that is Call of Duty 4, the single player was dull and cheap. The multiplayer is riddled with aim assist, I don't get the attraction.

But the *competitor* survey said it was the best game ever, voted for by the public! You aren't calling the public stupid are you because that would be insane!?

COD4 on the PC was great, but as you say the auto aim detracted from the enjoyment on consoles. Anyway, couldn't care less, the campaign lasted all of 5 hours and the multiplayer had little depth to it.

COD4 online is probably the best online FPS ive ever experienced! It did make single player dull though after going from online!
