King crabs

crab tastes like cod, but instead of tasting fishy, it tastes gently sweet.

also, the only good crabmeat is in the legs. most of the stuff in the body is very poisonous. you can sort the rubbish from the meat from the main body, but its not worth it.

stay away from the yellow stuff in the legs too...

There's nothing wrong with the brown meat in the body... not eating it is just laziness. Might not be as good as the claw but it's just wasteful otherwise. :o

Depends on the type of crab, and its size. A decent sized edible crab has a lot of yummy meat in the body and claws but none in the legs, whereas with spider crabs its the opposite.

You've got to head the head!

The roe is where the goodness is! (I don't like the cold crabs roe, but absolutely love them when cooked Malaysian style Chilli)

I think hunting for Alaskan King Crab is one of the most dangerous jobs in the world... saw a program on discovery for it... the crew members can make like £5k in under a month.

Errm, they can make $40k in a month :)

I'm surprised nobody posted it before me to be honest! :D

And $40k a month. Nice salary. Guess I'd want that much if I were going to be doing that job too. Would be nice to go see the place though, would love to spend a while on a huge ship.

FYI the new series of Deadliest Catch just happened to start tonight on Discovery and it should be repeated at the weekend. Its all about the Red King Crab season too :)

One things for sure - being a King Crab fisherman is one job I could never, ever do but I find it brilliant to watch and have seen every episode of DC since it started.

I've been semi-following "Deadliest Catch" on Discovery. It's an interesting program and certainly opens your eyes. You wouldn't think something as simple as catching a crab would be so dangerous and rewarding.

As for the King Crabs themselves, they are one of the hardest to catch and are worth up to $100 per crab for the fishermen.

Aye I watch Deadliest Catch from time to time too. Good documentary.

Oh and nothing beats a fresh crab sandwich, NOTHING! Especially from crab just caught from Devon / Florida, and sold along the sea front. Much better than the stuff you get in shops.

Alaskan king crab is where its at, probably the nicest crab meat that money can buy and my god they are huge. If theres 2 things that i love more than a big fat juicy steak, its a nice alaskan king crab and a lobster.

Mmmmm yummy, now im hungry:(. Shame that seafood ie lobster and crab is so damn expensive here in London...well decent crab and lobster that is.

I had some crab legs that size at the Aladdin buffet in Vegas, I was amazed at how big they were, length of my arm! Pretty tasty too, and all you can eat!
