King Kong

good but not brilliant. it was too long first of all, some scenes were unnessary (ice skating!)

I liked that scene...

This film did a much better job of humanising kong...and especially in the context of the relationship between him and the bird. Their relationship was much better than that in the original film..

The ice skating scene added to that..

Went to see the film last night, and I got to say it was brilliant, one of the best fims ive seen in a long time! great job by the creators here,

The first hour dragged - I was really struggling to stay awake. Some of the CGI was woeful - Kong himself was brilliant but some of the human and insect stuff was pants. There was no depth to the majority of the main characters - Colin Hanks was horribly underused and Naomi Watts was great with what she was given but there was a real lack of dialogue for her and Brody.

Jackson seriously needs to learn how to edit. You could easily have cut 30mins out of the runtime by removing the excessive pensive glances the film is littered with and there were way too many nods to other movies (LOTR mainly but also Tremors and Starship Troopers). The pacing was way off and at the end I was just waiting for it to finish.

Kong was well humanised but other than that everything about this movie was better done in the 1940s original.

5/10 tbh.

I saw a little clip on the telly and was appalled at the ridiculous speed of movement when kong is fighting a dinosaur.

Must we appease the hyperactive 10-year-olds to such an extent that ALL suspension of disbelief becomes impossible?

The spiderman and hulk films were also totally ruined by absolutely stupid feats of speed and jumping.

So you've seen a lot of giant gorilla/dinosaurs fights in your time yea?

Saw King Kong today, and it was a quality film. Everybodies pretty much covered my thoughts already, so i'll jump straight in with my rating; 9/10.

Makes me wish I had a giant gorilla for a friend though. :(

Without saying anything and not giving anything away, didn't like the ice scene...pants that bit was imo.

Rest was good.

Don't think its my favourite film of 2005 though.

I still prefer the 1930 Kong though.

I still think a T-Rex hasn't been as remotely well done as it was in the first Jurassic Park.

They were trying to make it as good as the Jurassic Park one, as that had already been done. They were allowed to be a little more "creative" with the creatures in Kong.

Richard Taylors own words (the special effects dude);

We couldn't better Jurassic Park at the end of the day. But we didn't want to. Jurassic Park has a perfect place in cinema history; it did exactly what it set out to do. Jurassic Park did so well taking the palaeontological history of the world, using experts to build exactly what the dinosaurs would have looked at. We've gone bunkum to that; let's just design really cool dinosaurs. Let's do what Ray Harryhausen did; let's just go wild.

So there. :p

The girls next to me cried like babies at the end. No shame in showing your emotions in public mind.
