Kingdom Come: Deliverance - open world RPG, february 13th

I started this the other day. I have just joined radzig's service.

First impressions are good. But lockpicking is a bit of a joke and has the worst mechanics I have seen in any genre in a long time. Nigh on impossible without tons of failed attempts and practice. I want to play the game, not spend hours (literally) practicing lock picking. :(

So I just ignore locked doors/chests now as my game time is limited. I'd rather see more of the story than benefit from items that may be locked away.

Enjoying the game a lot overall.

As I understood it, the lockpicking aspect was taken straight from the PC game, where you have the finesse of a mouse to get it right - that just didn't translate into movement on a controller. But it's a skill you will eventually require, so it's worth stocking up on picks and finding isolated 'easy' chests to work on. I find that it's all about finding the correct turn rate for both sticks - the one controlling the outer ring needs to be moved briskly, whereas the yellow sweet spot can move a lot slower, and not always in a perfect circle.

I pretty much explored for the start of the game - as soon as I had a decent enough bow, sword and a horse, I made it my mission to attack small bandit camps - though you often find camps of enemy soldiers; so have to leg it! Doing this allowed me to rank up sneaking, bow and lock picking skills decently, before I then tackled the main quest.

It's a clumsy game with a steep learning curve, but it has been one of the best experiences on console imo.

I'm really struggling with lock picking, so much so it's putting me off the game (only just past intro, broke the millers picks).

Thanks will have to wait until I can afford / find some more picks though. I've now got to the point after doing my first nights work in Rattay and off to look after that young lord next. Really enjoying it now despite the lock picking.

I mugged this off ages ago due to the ridiculous load times (have a series X now) but saw it on CD Keys for £7.50 with all the DLC. Going to start again from scratch i think.

One of the best games I've played tbh - it's got a very steep learning curve mind; you basically start out as a blank canvas, a pretty useless slacker who can only fling muck at houses and get drunk :D

It's also one of the most beautiful games I have played - it looks incredible, and the sounds of wildlife just immerse you even more, especially when sneaking up on a bandit camp in a forest.

A few friends of mine got as far as the lockpicking bit, and just dropped it - admittedly it was a pain to master before they patched it, but once you get the back, you can start to level that skill up. As I was always a huge fan of the old Thief games on PC, I tend to lean my characters towards a sneak\thief\bow type of playstyle and KCD allows this.

I recently purchased the digital release, thinking it would pick up on my CD version saves, but alas, it didn't; so I might have another playthough on the PS5 over the winter period.

Yeah I remember it being hard. I just got past the prologue bit and it said about all the DLC being unlocked. I'm assuming that's for much later on?

Edit
Accidentally started a women's lot. My word that is tough going and I can't cancel it either.

I think the DLC (other than Woman's Lot) just add new quests - whether you need to be a certain level though, I'm not sure - think I was pretty far into the game by the time they came out.

Not actually tried the Woman's Lot one yet, maybe I'll give that a go first before the re-play.

Crossing fingers and toes they do a new game on the new gen consoles

It was awful although I did get a shield out of it. I thought a second game was planned?

After your little chat I found out that I already own this so installed it to give it a go. It’s a bit janky but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Got to the opening credits around 3 hours in lol. Enjoying what I have played so far.

Oh without a doubt, it feels very clumsy - it's certainly not got the finesse of a FPS game; but I think that adds to the charm, and certainly to the difficulty level!

Put in a bunch more hours today, and just couldn't put it down - only done a handful of quests after the intro, and although my rose tinted specs must have been on when thinking back; it looks a bit dated in places. But the story and depth make the game, not graphics.

Stick with it, it's well worth it imo

Yeah played a few more hours today. The jank is quite endearing actually and the story is pretty good. Going to stick with it.
