Kingdom Come: Deliverance / Open-World RPG / Medieval History

I know there's a mod for this, but I recall hearing it broke the game once you saved a certain number of times
I know its tempting to want to save often, but honestly once you get past a small way in, you'll have money to purchase many of the save drink and saving won't be an issue like you felt it would be.

I think the initial issue was that the saving drink wasn't in the game at all, with only beds and a wing how you can save. They added the save drink pretty early and it was a good balance.

Why not give it a go without the mod and if you feel after say 5 hours of the game that you're hating the way you can't save often then add the mod later?

I suppose I could do that.

I do feel pretty certain I will be needing the mod, though. I really dislike having to play through the same parts of games more than once (except for Soulslikes for some reason), and I have abandonded more than a few games where I've found my progress put back too far for one reason or another.

I am usually a quick save fanatic but this game just worked for me, after a while didn't miss quick save, played through the whole game and didn't use a mod.

Yeah, I get that. And it might be that I'd end up being fine with it too, but... I know I probably won't get around to mustering up the movitation to install and play it if I don't know I can save when I want to.

I know, I know - I might be missing out, I should try it and see, and all that. But the fact is I need pretty strong motivation to get into games these days and that would detract from it just enough. I just recently noped out on my playthrough of RE7 when it put me back to the start of a level even though it looked like it might be good in other ways. Just lost the motivation to play it.

So, has anyone got an idea if the save mod lets you save freely now, or is there still that issue with it hitting a certain file number and then crashing? I remember reading this was the case some time ago, but I can't see it mentioned on the mod page (and there are over 1,000 posts on that page...).

So if you fail a mission and have to do it again, do you quit? There are a few in this that are quite detailed and do have different outcomes depending on what you do; some could see getting the less than ideal outcome a fail and would like to restart it over again.

Sometimes. Not always, though. It depends on the game, the length of time I'd have to replay to get back to where I was, how many times it seems I'd have that happen in the game, how much I'm enjoying it, etc.

Redoing something to get a better outcome might feel differnt from being forcibly put back x minutes/hours, though. I dunno, it varies from game to game, but in general I strongly dislike being forced to repeat sizable sections of games.

Gotcha. I very much understand when there's toiling involved, just doing basic things to level whatever up so you can complete something and then it resets/crashes/etc.

With hindsight, I did find my first playthrough of this could be like that at moments, but that was mostly when I was being an arse and hoarding lots of weaponry to sell on so your movement speed is hugely reduced. That was frustrating to have to redo when something crashed or I was killed etc.!

Imo go with the strategy people went with at launch: save as often as you want BUT don't reload unless it's a crash. I definitely advise against save-scumming in this game, it's just going to be a worse experience because what's so great about this game is precisely the feeling of consequence and weight to your actions and the game allowing it to go forward and adjust based on those actions/choices. So you don't really feel like you're making the wrong choice in a binary right/wrong, but rather you are seeing different possible realities play out, it's a lot more counterfactual.

Yeah, I hear that. Kind of conflicted. Maybe I'll try the mod, but try not to overuse it.
You will spam the saves in no time. It is not fun dying and having to re do something and waste 15+ minutes or more. If I had all the time in the world I would just play it on hardcore mode, but that is not the case and I just like to save often and not waste time for silly mistakes I make.

Well, maybe! I am not especially strong-willed! :)

That was where my original question came in, though - I recall the mod used to cause problems once you reached, I dunno, 100 saves was it? Not too many for a 100 hour plus game anyway. I was concerned I would get a fair way in and then not be able to progress. As I say, the mod page doesn't mention this, and I can't see much about it at all in the past year or two. Whether this means it was fixed or not, I don't know.

This is a great game, very difficult, but be warned there are bugs, and I hit a progress bug that borked a huge amount of progress and I didn't feel like replaying 10 hours of gameplay to get past it.

Well I am at over 400 :p:o:D

Inmean I have about 6-7 saves which I overwrite as I go along. But it does tell you your save number. I recon I will be well over 1000 by the time I am done :)

Started last night. Looks good so far. Not getting combat at all (only a couple of fistfights and some sword training to go on, though). I feel it's going to take a lot of practice to get good at.

Hitboxes on interactable items are a bit wonky too, but I might be able to get used to that.

Just done the first errands for Pa. Any tips for starting off anyone?

I did spend an hour or so last night picking every herb I could see, so it looks like I am off to a good start then! :)
I spent about 5/6 hours in the starting area picking nettles and other herbs, and had around 200+ or even 300 (was quiet a while so don't remember exactly) just from picking and selling plants. And ahem.. some lockpicking too.. :p Also, as nands said, herb knowledge went up quiet well too !
