Hi All

I am looking for some help please.

Just built this.

Gigabyte GA-Z87X-OC - Updated to Bios F7
RM1000 Corsair PSU
Kingston Hyper X 4GBx2 DDR3 2400 - KHX24C11T3K2/8x - IN DDR3_1 and DDR3_2 for Dual channel mode.
I5 4670K (will run fine at 4.5Ghz 1.3v - but running at stock)
Corsair H100i cooler
SSD x 2 (1 boot, 1 data)
Sapphire R9-280X Toxic x 2 Crossfire bridge fitted (In PCIE 1 and 3 - from top)
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1
All latest updates and drivers loaded ok.
1 x 6 pin power fitted to OC_PEG

All boots fine and no OC of CPU, just left at standard 3.4 - 3.8 on Turbo. Intel burn test fine.

X6700 3D11 Marks - OK result.

But memory is running at 1333mhz, so I go into bios and select XMP profile

2 = 2400mhz - PC doesn't like to boot everytime and if does will lock when running 3Dmark, however I can complete Intel burn test OK and CPU-Z shows 1200Mhz

1 =2133mhz - PC boots ok, CPU-Z shows memory = 1066 OK, 3D mark runs but it scores about X3500 and the physics score is higher showing faster ram but FPS is about half and graphics score is 3400 compared to 6600 when ram at 1333mhz.

So it seems with ram above 1333mhz I loose crossfire performance, however 3DMark shows x 2 cards installed and crossfired OK - When looking at GPU activity as 3Dmark is running both cards can show from 50 - 70% activity, never 100%

So its all a bit weird, I have been building systems for 20 years and this is beating me.

From other Z87 experience, I should simply go into bios, select XMP profile and reboot and memory should run at XMP profile speeds and system work OK and performance improved. I should be able to run the 2400 ram and 2400 as its not OC or anything.

Also why am I loosing crossfire speed, PCI-E slot problem, They are both running at PCIE 3.0 8x in GPUZ when benchmarking albeit at 50-70% Activity!?

System runs stable playing Crysis3 etc at 3.8 turbo and 1333mhz, anything above and I have issues.

Faulty ram?

Incorrect placement of 2 x cards in PCI-E slots?

I have tried setting memory manually in bios (Timings as per SPD, Voltage to 1.65) - Also tried changing system agent, CPU IO Analogue and Digital to +0.15/).30 - Still the same.

Its odd, anybody heard of something like this before?

Anytime you take to reply is greatly appreciated.

Rob
Was here when OCUK first started :O)

is that correct for ram slots/2 sticks?

it should be in #1 and #3? if numbers start at 0

so 0X0X x is where you install the memory

Hi..

Yep as per manual, its physical slots 1 and 3 from the right of mobo. However they call them DDR3_1 and DDR3_2 !

I have taken out 1 x card so now in non-crossfire mode, I get exactly the same issue when trying to run memory above 1600, FPS gets halved.

As said can sometimes boot at 2400mhz and can run Intel burn etc no probs, just getting massive FPS loss..

So It can either be mobo doesn't like this ram at all or a PCIE problem.

Next test is to remove both PCI-E cards and use on-board and see what happens with that.

Its just weird...

OK, Did some more testing

Ran with onboard Intel GFX and with 2400mhz ram all is fine and all Benchmarks run fine. So memory/cpu test ok.

Put 1 x R280X back in and again very poor performance, put ram back 1333mhz and it runs smooth as silk.

So I would presume a conflict between high speed memory setting and PCIE operation - So could be bad motherboard or incompatibility with ram.

All a bit weird as runs fine with onboard GFX.

Got me stumped anyway.

Hi,

Did you ever get a resolution to this problem? I am currently experiencing a very similar issue with this board and 2x8 kingston beast 2400 xmp memory.

Randomly when I boot I will experience terrible performance in games. If I use default settings (1333mhz no xmp) most of the time The computer works fine and I get decent performance - although very occasionally I do get the symptoms shown below but not often.

If I enable XMP the majority of the time I will experience awful performance

ie world of warcraft 20-30 fps as opposed to 80-100 fps
cs go extreme jittering and fps drops during gunfire / smoke (down to 15-20fps)

The computer is rock solid and will never crash... unless I enable xmp and set the mem to 2400 it will either bsod or hardlock during games

Computer specs as follows:

z87x-oc
i7 4770k Haswell
16gb 2400 xmp kingston beast
ati 7990 saphire stock
Corsair RM1000 watt Gold PSU
SB recon3d pciex soundcard
OCZ Agility 3 ssd 240gb
4tb wd black hdd

This has been going on for a while and my main suspician is that this board and ram just do not seem to like eachother.

I am borrowing some 1600 mhz corsair 2x4 gb to try for a while so I will see if it behaves itself with this memory.

Any input would be much appreciated.

sorry should have mentioned I am running f8

I see there are beta f9 - f10 bios available... im not overly a fan of using a beta bios but any idea what the updates on these are? I cant seem to find a definitive answer
