Just bought this new RAM : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-039-KS

Just need some help configuring it though. I've changed the timings and voltage, but i'm unsure as to how to get it to run at 1066 speeds. CPU-z also reports it as being 6400 type, not 8500.

I've posted some pics below to give some more info. (Sorry for my ignorance...all a bit new to this). Running on an IP35 pro MB (see specs below)

I had a look there cheers. Couldn't figure out how to change my FSB/DRAM ratio though. I've posted a pic of my bios to give you an idea of what I have available to me.

It gives me a CPU - DRAM option (the default value of 816 increased from 799 or something after I disabled EIST). Is this where I should be looking? the closest I could get to the 1066 number was at 1:1.50 which gave a value of 1020.

Am I looking in the wrong place?

Nope you got your FSB overclocked a bit (333MHz >>> 340MHz) so all the numbers you see for DDR2-Frequency are boosted also! :p

If you set your FSB back to 333MHz you will see all the numbers match up! Once you know which Ram Multi does what then you can make a note and start clocking again!

The FSB-straps are designed thinking that the end user wil be running either a 266/333/400MHz FSB so once you start adjusting the FSB the Ram MHz will normally be above or below where you want it unless you do your maths! :D

Ah ok....cheers for the help wayne.

I switched the FSB to 333 but the numbers still didn't match up. Should this RAM maybe be run with the FSB @ 400?

edit: just tried 400 and the numbers didn't seem to match up either....i'm at a loss? Is the CPU : DRAM ratio the same as FSB : DRAM ?

I'm not familiar with your motherboard but do you perhaps have to save & exit BIOS, reboot and then come back in to see the changes?

I'm not sure if the Intel® P35 Express which features in the ABIT IP35-Pro handles memory ratios in the same way as the Intel® P45 Express that I am more familiar with, I think it should be ok though, maybe the P45 has extra Memory ratios?

Still just make sure you have the latest BIOS for your board, do a full CMOS reset and then start experimenting with the RAM speeds, it should be as easy as selecting a Memory ratio (assuming 333MHz-FSB) and you got your DDR2-1066 running using the 5:8 memory multiplier!

That should be fine . . . although the other guys may mock you for underclocking your RAM! :p

To be fair it's not that easy but if you take your time and have a play it should be fairly clear whats going on.

You also can play about with the voltages as if you underclock the RAM won't need as much juice!
