Kitteh!

Is she a tortoiseshell? I can't really tell from the pics, but I ask because they are almost exclusively female, according to wiki. Would help determine the gender a bit more surely.

Jon

It certainly looks to be a possibility, although at such a premature age it could be difficult getting a certainty :)

He'll be sending more pics when the cat is more comfortable which I'll upload here in due cause :)

Nice cat.

If it is tortoiseshell and male, you can make a fortune 'pimping' them out as studs. Male tortoiseshells are very rare, and as such in high demand amongst breeders :)

On the whiskers thing, some cats (ie. the kitten's mother) have a habit of chewing other cat's/kitten's whiskers off. Something to do with stopping them from wandering too far away. Not necessarily people being cruel.

On the ferrel case, yes, its possible the mother could have put it there, but how would it have cut off its whiskers?

Its much more likely its been toyed with by someone, messed about with, they cut the whiskers off to see what happens, then got bored of it and tossed it into a bin.

Glad someone has found it. Hope it enjoys its new home. Well done to your mate.

apart from the lobbing part its not as silly as your making out , you would be suprised at what cats are capable of, it could have picked it up then climbed into the bin for shelter or to search for food

Even if that was the case, the bin men would come and the kitty would be dead by now, so the guys still a hero, even if it wasnt dumped. But on the offchance it was, the dumpers are scum :)

kitty might be jumpy for a while. my parents got a cat that had been seriously mistreated, beaten, starved - the usual really. even now, about 4 years later it's still really jumpy, so if you make any sudden movements it's off. give it some love it'll be fine :)

That kitten is adorable. I have an exam at 13.30. Instead of revising I'm sat here looking at this. Argh!

Anyone know whether it would be better to get them balanced a vet or something?

Snip the other side off so he can walk straight  :)

Damn people for dumping the poor kitteh, sooooo cute, and hope he/she isn't too scared.

and.... AWWWWWWWWW

as its got a bit of its ear missing too I would very much assume the kitten had been injured by another animal/car/something happening rather than someone cutting them off.

AS for being in a bin, theres untold numbers of wild animals that knock over bins all the time to get to food, its very possible a group of cats came across an upturned bin, went in looking for food and a kitten was under some stuff, the bin turned back over in the morning and no one noticed the kitten. but then again it could well have been left there, impossible to know really. Might have simply been a box next to the bin they used to climb in to get food and couldn't get out again.

Good on him for taking it in though. When we got our new kittens they did much the same, instantly designated themselves a "safe" zone under a cupboard in the corner we couldn't easily get to. We simply spent a few days watching tv in the room quietly letting them choose to come out more frequently and come closer. So hang out in the same room with it, let it get used to the smells and sounds and he/she/it will come out more often and eventually feel safe, at which point kittens go from incredibly scared mode to "must know what every last inch of this room smells like, and how to climb everything" mode which is normally cute and funny.

"Cutting off the vibrissae on one side of a housecat's face will cause it to cut left corners too quickly and walk in a lopsided manner until the vibrissae grow back."

Hahaha

I'm sorry, but I can't stop chuckling at that

To be honest, the whisker and ear damage is more likely to have been done by the mother during the hours after birth then any person.

Horrible treatment to give to such a cute creature, really appals me this kind of attitude towards life.

Pass on the e-kudos to your brother, and even if its a female get him to call her Oscar :).

Even if that was the case, the bin men would come and the kitty would be dead by now, so the guys still a hero, even if it wasnt dumped. But on the offchance it was, the dumpers are scum :)

aye it doesnt really matter how it got there the main thing for the kitty is its being cared for now

UPDATES!!!!/HOLY THREAD REVIVAL BATMAN!!!

For those of you remember this thread, I am pleased to bring you good news about the young kitten my brother has adopted after finding it in a petrol station bin!

For the first few weeks the month old kitten barely emerged from it's security blanket under the sofa, yet my brother has managed to coerse the terrified little moggy into consistant, regular feeding and using the litter tray.

Terrified of human contact, the young kitteh would hiss and spit at anyone entering the room whilst attempting to dart back to the under-sofa-nest. This determination to attain clandestine status lead (against all my objections and suggestions of Oscar- "I don't care she's a girl, she was found in a bin!") to her naming of "Heidi" :)

After studying up on sensitive training methods, my brother has successfully brought the cat to a substantial level of trust with him and his flatmate and the once terrified, shy, shaking little hissy mc'spit is now a curious, playful, affectionate little kitteh! :D

I'm delighted to enclose some photos which (when viewed in comparison to the OP) start to reflect the transformation and development, which is at the successful start of what will hopefully be a wonderful life story for little Heidi. :)

Remember my dad found a kitten (it was pretty much all white) outside on a freezing night when he was doing some deliveries. Wasn't actually particularly scared of anyone so I'm guessing someone just ended up with more kittens that they knew what to do with.

I love kitties! She's gorgeous!

My 3 were all ferals too. My little tom was found alone on a rubbish tip at 4 months. He hid under my bed for about a week at first! He's been the hardest of the 3 to tame and is very wary of men but likes women one he knows them. Yesterday he jumped up on my desk and demanded attention which is a huge step forward!

Our cat was a feral cat. She was horrible when we first got her. Now she loves the fuss. Still not at fussy as other cats, but fussy nontheless. She's awesome.
