Hey,

Just a polite request...a large number of residents in my local town are trying to raise awareness of knife crime and hopefully, prevent it from happening as much as possible - The more people who know that it is unacceptable, the less chance we have of it happening.

This has been spurred by the murder of a resident, who was stabbed to death whilst breaking up a fight.

If you'd like to help, I'd really appreciate you using #ripbillydove and #stopknifecrime in a tweet.

Thanks,

Surely any awareness of things like this, reaching those people who believe it's acceptable and getting them to think twice is a good thing, if it helps make one person think twice about carrying a knife...

People who think stabbing is acceptable aren't going to have their minds changed by Twitter, unfortunately.

If the news story had said the culprits had been hung, drawn and quartered then maybe it would be a deterrant, but as tragic as the news story linked is it wouldn't make a knife wielding scumbag thing twice at all.

To be honest, I'd not equate knife wielder directly to technophobe, but I'd dismiss any suggestion they could be swayed by any form of heartfelt internet campaign

Agreed, they are not going to go "I am not going to cut you open with my razor blade because I saw that some knife victim was trending on twitter".

I doubt if the problem is that few people are aware that a sharp knife can cause injury or death if you stab or slash someone with it. It isn't exotic knowledge known only to a few.

Making a few keypresses and mouse clicks to "raise awareness" of something that everyone is already aware of is doubly pointless.

I find that statement really strange, how could anybody not know its unacceptable, carrying a knife is never acceptable unless you're a butcher......or a door to door knife salesmen

"Good evening ma'am, would you like to shake hands with a Ronco?"

"AHHHHH"

"Handle first, handle first"

Tbf this is a pretty cutting edge approach to preventing crime of this nature. You have to get a handle on it before it starts carving divides in the community.

Really worthwhile contribution.

Discussing whether the tweeting thing is going to make any difference is one thing, trying to get a cheap laugh is really low.

I agree, this place is up to the hilt in edgy humour :( It's almost as if these people don't see the point of things like this! But then I guess posting a thread like this is always going to be a double-edged sword.

You had me until the end there :p

This story was all over my facebook on the weekend. I don't think that turning to social media is going to change much, if anything, though.
