Got a bloody annoying knocking sound from the front suspension that I don't seem to be able to locate. It is apparant over bumps and you can feel it through the footwell of the car so rules out topmounts etc. Checked anti roll bar bushes, all wishbone bushes and all look almost new and everything feels tight. Anti-roll bar droplinks were new not long ago and they tend to make a noise when turning the wheel rather than going over bumps. Also replaced both balljoints for a laugh. Can anyone think of anything else? Car is only on 30k.

As a sidenote, got some new wheels but they need a refurb - which colour should I get them done in?

Cheers

Its very common on saxos and 106's, although no one really ever seems to find out what the problem actually is :p
From what ive read of various forums, different things have worked for different people.

Yes but usually 70k + models which just need all the bushes replacing and droplinks should be done every 10k IMO. But I really don't know why mine is doing it :( All the bushes look brand spanking new still. Should also mention the shocks/springs were replaced with the uprated jobbies just before I bought the car (7k miles ago)

Have you ran over any cats recently?

PS: Black rims.

Nope.

And yeah obvious choice is black rims but only thing is I think they need a polished lip or something to break up the tyre/wheel but not really possible on these wheels.

I ran over a cat once when I left for Berwick (my first long distance drive by myself) without realising...and it clunked all the way there :(

The rims don't need a polished lip - get them black.

If the car wasn't yellow, you'd be able to pull of thin redband tyres too.

Nah - black would tie the car together - the anthracite/gunmetal/whatever is too dissimilar to the car and trim colours.

Hmm think I will have a bash at painting them black myself then if I don't like the look I can get them done in a different colour, or if I like the look but done a shabby job I can get them done in black properly.

Oh the joys of Saxo VTR ownership.

Mine had the same problem, more so when cornering at low speeds, new droplinks made no difference.

Hmm throw another idea in to the mix why don't you Scooby!

Yellow car with black trim and antracite vts wheels, looks nice IMO. (apart from the stupidly low rear end)

Hmm just realised I haven't tried the bolts in the footwell which bolt the anti roll bar bushes to the chassis. Hopefully it's them!!

sorry can't help with the knocking noise, but I had ago at the wheels for you. Not very good at photoshop but this gives you some idea :)
