To a garage you've arranged? Yeah, you should be fine then - just make sure the garage know not to release it to the insurance company without your say so.

To a garage your insurance has arranged? I'd be getting the car back home sharpish or again contact the garage to say NOTHING happens without your say so - esp if the insurance company want to remove the car from the premises.
 
They arranged , I chose . but to be fair I'm past caring. Can't be bothered with the effort and time again. If they fix it I will sell it and if they payout I'll buy another bangernomics and do my bike test

That's how I feel now anyway , could easy change.

Make sure the payout is sufficient... MK2 GTI's are worth a reasonable amount in good condition. Theyre certainly not throwaway cars anymore.
 
That's awful, what a way to ruin what is one of the most iconic cars ever.

Looks like a very well maintained 'classic-ish' example being faithful to the original, this kind of vandalism is on par with ISIS smashing up ancient statues etc.. it's just wanton vandalism.

People who do this should be nailed to crosses and set on fire.

I mean, what were they going to do with it? they could hardly sell it given the oldskool gti scene, all they accomplished was to trash a, lets face it, classic car.

My old fiesta got done in a similar fashion about 10 years back, the ragged the driver side window off and released the boot catch and nicked a sub out the boot, leaving a £800 woth of nitro kit, a thousand pouds woth of custom exhaust and...don't even get me started...ruined a perfectly cool car for a £200 speaker that they probably got £20 for on the black market.

Indeed, they are most defiantly up there, not quite as desirable as the MK1 but pretty dam close if in good order.

I'd be pushing your insurers that it's in the same league as E-type jags and Escort Mexico's.. you just can't replace them.

Good news

they paid out 4k minus my £100 excess. , I didn't even have to argue for that , and very much doubt I could have sold it for that

Bad news

Wanted £920 for the salvage , and whilst I could definetly have fitted doors , steering lock , locks etc myself and then got it painted with the rest of payout i decided I cant be bothered . just going to keep an eye open for it on the salvage auctions

Currently driving round in £480 bora , the air con is coming in handy compared to sweating in the golf :p
 
Fair enough, that's not a bad payout. Nice insurance company for once!
Still, can't replace the car though. Thought about any other cars?
 
Or Romanian leaftlet delivers who didn't have a clue ! Everyone cpuld break into these ! Vw even issued armouredoorplates to combat it ! These idiots still failed somehow

As for what's next I said I'd be sensible but retrorides for sale section is dangerous
