Knocked off yesterday

Did you argue the quote figure of the engineers report?to the insurer

The engine would be worth a few grand at least provided it runs and any damaged cases repaired/replaced

Part it out on eBay or Gumtree yourself

Argued the figure but they came back today to advise that the 3rd party insurer has refused to increase the salvage offer. The engineers quote for the entire salvage was only £2240, with the insurer offering £1200.

can you not take the driver to small claims court to reclaim your losses?

I'll have to ask my solicitor about this, but its blinking annoying if that's what it takes to get a fair price for my bike. I suppose I naively thought that the purpose of insurance was to protect people who were the victim of someone else's mistake!

It's no use for you, I know, but for others looking at new vehicles google GAP insurance.

I just went to the first link and an MT-07 which is sub £7k you can get, for a payment of £45:
Pays the difference between the Motor Insurers Settlement on the day it is written off, and the invoice price you paid or amount outstanding on finance which ever is the higher.
For a years cover.

For less than 1% if your vehicles cost it seems worth while for peace of mind. 2 years cover takes it up to £56.

Obviously you'd want to look into the reviews of these companies. They might turn out to be as much of a pain to deal with as the rest of the insurers.

Cheers, will 100% be looking at that in future. I suppose it's only no use to you, as some have said, IF you don't get into an accident. Nobody really thinks it will happen to them, but as I can fully attest to, it easily could. And it hurts.....and leaves you out of pocket and driving a car! If those prices are roughly accurate then it's an absolute no brainer. Im about two grand in a hole for me bike atm, so 40/50 quid is nothing.
