Kwik Fit - Don't do it

'Surely they cant screw that up' :p

:p & you was wrong. Ridiculous isn't it & almost unbelievable but i have heard of many a car that has had a cheap set of tyres fitted only to find out they scratched the wing or something whilst doing it. God knows how they have stayed in business.

Found a place in Torbay with the same machine - £5 a corner. Much more like it. Drove all the way up.

Where out if interest, wasn't AMS was it? Handy to know when I want mine doing, and it's less of a drive. If you drove in going through torquay/sea front way then you'd have pretty much passed my house :)

I had a cheap Astra diesel several years back, and had 4 new tyres put on it at Kwik-Rip......

It was only a shopping car etc so didn't think it would matter taking it to them so long as they fitted things properly.

Picked the car up when they were finished and drove off. Noticed a horrible clunking sound which definitely wasn't right so turned round and drove back to them.

Got out and saw that one of the wheels was literally hanging off. They hadn't tightened the wheel bolts at all. They weren't even finger tight. Got them to sort it and later called the head office to have a serious complain.

I explained about the risk they had put my family in and what on earth were they thinking. On the receipt it says fitted by XXXXX and checked by YYYYY.

I basically told this guy that the whole outfit was a joke and nobody gives a monkeys about doing a good job it's just a bunch of kids who lie about checking things and the whole "can't get better than a kwik fit fitter" thing was a total farce.

In the end he gave me a full refund for all the work & some vouchers to use in the future.

I'd never dream of using them again.

Yes it was AMS :)

Really friend guys, knew what they were doing, was telling me all about his mates Alpina B10 :D

Have used them for years, Jason is a good chap and the service is always top notch :)

Sorry but i've had nothing but good service from our local one. One instance i was quoted £X amount for a replacement cat, agreed to have the work done only to come back and find that £X was now £X - 70 as they'd found a cheaper part. Can't think of many independant's that would do that.

That name rings a bell - I'm talking about the branch just outside of Paignton?

Yup in an area called Preston, inbetween TQ and Paignton :) Jason is the youngish guy who is usually on the reception area.

It doesnt matter how desperate i was, unless it was absolutly life or death there is no way i would take any vehicle of mine into kwik fit.
Even then i would try and blag a lift before hand.

I told you about how my old man had exactly the same problem with his E39/Eagle F1's/Kwikfit at RR5. Granted, you may have had a few more important things to think about that day, but still! :p

ev0, I'm disappointed you don't go to Carlton for that ;)

never had an issue at all with them

This is way before I started using Carlton, whilst Alex does most stuff on the Clio I've not been to him for tyres yet :) My old 19 seemed to live at AMS :p

Goodyears are a bit 'yesterday' too imo but each to their own

I don't buy tyres to make a fashion statement though so whilst they still offer class leading performance I'll continue to buy them. The day they are toppled at the top of an independant, properly test tyre review is the day I move to the new winner :)

Considering they happen once every time the moon is blue, you might have a long wait!
