Kwik Fit

I've been stood in Kwik fit watching them Balance, You'll have Junior try it first & stick 7 Huge weights on & mess about with it for 20 minutes until he goes & gets the Experienced Dude, He will knock the 7 weights off & perfectly balance it with 2 small weights :p
How somebody needs showing how to Balance more than once is Beyond me, I'd show Junior Twice & twice only & after that if he Fails Sack him. Same with your Tracking & lazy arse fitters who don't correct the steering wheel after the job, I'd throw a Spanner at them & sack them an all. The Dudes that chew up Alloys need more than a Spanner to the head so I'd use a Mallett on them :p

Anyways.
It's not fair to brand Kwik fit crap but it is fair to Brand the type of people they employ as Juniors crap because they are. There will Always be the manager & one experienced Dude about so just get them to do the job & mis out Junior & you should be fine.

What really annoys me is that i would be Perfect for my local Tyre/Exhaust places but as they only take on under 18's or people with Previous Tyre/exhaust working experience they don't want me. Does my box in when i go in to these places & then end up doing the job myself & showing them a trick or two on THERE machines/equipment

Took my GTIR to Kwik Fit to have the geo re-set after putting standard suspension back on. Had brand new F1s and they'd made such a mess of the setup it went through both front tyres in a fortnight.

Took my Impreza to the other tyre place local to me and whoever did the job held the keys in their hand while opening the door and put a deep scratch above the handle.

I now take all my cars to a tyre place that mainly deals with tractors and artic lorries from the refineries. Cheap as anything, can get any tyre you want and will do it there and then. They charged me £180 for 4 new tyres for my Jeep 235/75/15 :)

My experience of Kwik Fit.

Got a puncture on a Sunday on the wifes car, she needed it for work, an 80+ mile round trip per day, so we took it to the local kwik fit. They said "wkward size and we haven't got one in stock (fair enough, I suppose) leave the wheel with us, we'll order a tyre now and fit it tomorrow morning for you. It'll be about £80 (or whatever it was). We'll give you a bell when it's finished."

So, the next day came and, near closing time they still hadn't rung, so I stopped in on the way home to be told "No, we never order anything on a Sunday, we only have deliveries on a Tuesday and Thursday. It's on it's way and we'll fit it tomorrow."

I wasn't very impressed, but, as I'd left it until near closing time I had little choice. Next day they fitted it and told me "You're tyre is ready, it's £100". When Icomplained, I was told "Oh no, we're very sorry, that £80 quote must have been just to fit the tyre, not dispose of the old one as well".

Now I wouldn't even piddle on their building if it was on fire.

It's a pita as well, as I want to find a decent tyre place, but who can you trust??

THEIR equipment :p

i wouldn't go near them any more. At my gf's request (shed used them before) i took her Celica in for a break pad change, made the mistake of leaving the car with them while i popped into town to sort some stuff out, came back half an hour later and drove off... car was shaking the crap out of itself over 40mph.... took it into another garage to look over and the front 2 wheels were seriously dented, and one of the rears was pretty bad.

Ended up having to replace all four wheels, and tyres at a cost of about £700, and then the sodding break pads they'd fitted were the wrong ones so it was juddering under breaking (which they tried to blame on the discs).

When we tried to complain their just turned around and said prove it.

Never never again!

In the past I have gotten quotes from KwikFit but they have never bettered many local garages that I use. for tyres and exhausts.

One time I asked them to change a tyre from one wheel onto another . Twas a directional tyre and the put it on back to front. When I told the guy he didn't even understand what I meant. I had to show him the other tyres on my car before he understood. Had to go away and come back before he fixed it.

And in the interest of balancing...

Took my car into Kwikfit after I got it to get some Eagle F1's fitted all round. They matched Mytyres price. Excellent. All fitted.

Noticed a vibration through the steering wheel but wasn't sure if it was present before I had the tyres done or not. Read a lot about worn control arms so put it down to that. Booked the car into BMW to get some work done under warranty and I mentioned it to them. They came back and said it was wheel balance, but as I'd just had new tyres they didnt re-balance as they recommended I got the place that fitted the tyres to do it. I had asked them to check the suspension bushes and they said they were 'perfect' but with more than 100k I doubted this diagnosis.

I was, to be honest, sceptical. I mean, I'd just had the wheels balanced. Anyway, when I got round to it, I popped back to Kwikfit. They were suprised, but rebalanced the wheels anyway, but only after I had queued for 2 HOURS. I asked if I could go away and come back in 2 hours but the guy said if I left I lost my place in the queue...

Problem still there, and this time, vibration under braking. Great - warped discs as well as worn control arms. Got a pile of cash together a few months later but just before I booked the car in to have the work done I thought for the sake of 20 quid it was probably worth trying wheel balance one last time.

Drove to Paignton where a place had a Hunter balancing machine - they balanced the wheels again. The guy said the wheel balance was absolutely miles out on every wheel - he'd never seen balancing so bad. He re-balanced.

Drove home - absolutely perfect. Not a THING through the steering wheel, and absolutely no vibration through the steering wheel when braking either. Perfection.

So, there we go, nearly forked out 500 quid on replacement suspension when in actual fact it was down to the complete inability of Kwik Fit to do something as simple as balance a wheel.

I will never go there again.
I am surprised it took you so long to try another balancing place. Take your invoice from the hunter place and complain to kwik fit and ask to pay for the rebalance.

(again I mention costco) charge a tenner for all 4 wheels on what looks like an expenive machine.

I avoid Kwik-Fit at all costs !

I needed two new front tyres on a previous car, they used the air-gun on my locking wheel nuts and rounded them so they were put back on the car, but should i ever need to change them i was stuck, needed to get the locking wheel nuts changed at my expense as kwik-fit denied all knowlege although nobody else had touched the car !

I told myself i would Never take my car to another kwik-fit garage for as long as i live .......

But ..... on Friday just gone, i needed to get two new front tyres changed on the company-car as was planning a 700 mile trip, i was told by the company i work for to take it to Kwik-Fit as its a hire-car (i shuddered and started worrying) and reluctantly went to the local one to my work's, as its a company car they just seen the £ Sign's and ripped the front wheels off, stripped the rubber off and then decided that they actually didnt have the replacment tyres to put back on (left hand not knowing what right hand is doing). After much debating they had no option but to put the old tyres back on and i was forced to drive 30 odd miles to the next nearest Kwik-Fit who did have the correct tyres in stock, the 2nd kwik-fit managed to change the tyres with no problem (to my utter amazment).

So my two run-in's with kwik-fit have been unplesent ones, and although i was forced to take the company car to one on Friday, i would NEVER take my personal car to a kwik-fit, they are monkeys !

Depends on the place really, the Kwik Fit in Aberystwyth was fantastic when i was there at uni, fixed punctures, did some balancing and sorted some exhaust problems (including free minor parts) all free of charge, But then the one in Macclesfield, on the other hand, has always been fairly poor, poor standard of work and long waits/false promises (In my opinion and experience).
