Mine is stepping B as well, but i chcuked the box away so i dunno the number. Is there any way I can find out?

Only places the number is, is on the sticker on the side of the box and ontop of the chip itself :)

you will need to take off the heatsink and clean away the thermal stuff to see the code im affraid mate :(

Hi m8,
Its under water. Idle = Room Temp and about 30'c load. These are very cool running chips. I would imagine if you ran on air I would expect sub 50'c load temps.

I have pretty much weekly experience with 6600 chips since launch. The latest chips are definately poor clockers that need lots of voltage. I suspect Intel have tried to reduce costs with the silicon or are speed binning chips.

The best chips are

Good for 3.8+

29B
30A
29A

Best meaning 3.8+ with low volts. My 29B will do 3.8 with about 1.50 volts. The 29B/30A do seem to clock well with low voltages.

28 A/B are good for 3.6 but need more volts.

Lower batch again clock well over 3.2-3.6 with 1.55 volts.

MM is your friend for cherry picked chips, avoid buying new IMHO.

I'm hoping to try a quad soon, Q6600. OcUK seem to have them at a nice price of £375, just need to find out how well they clock.

Same as mine atm, orthos seems to be going well. Boots windows at 3.6Ghz on 1.35v, so maybe 1.4 or 1.45v might get 3.6, however due to my 5v fans and the fact its only cooled by an si 120 etc.. its running away thermally to like 70C+ loaded at 1.4v 3.6 :D

I agree with my fellow 29B buddies ;)

I too was lucky enough to be able to cherry-pick a brand new 6600 :D a while back and sold on my original 6600 (week 24, if I remember). The 29B is happily sat at 3.2GHz with pretty much all BIOS settings on Auto ! This means I get all the funky speedstep etc. functionality without compromising my OC when needed - TAT shows a pretty speedy switch to 'full throttle' as and when needed.

I have experimented with this chip and had marginal success at 3.8GHz (eg SuperPi and similar) but was a little concerned with temps on air (Scythe Ninja with 12cm) as volts were approaching 1.45v......since then, never tried again - although often wondered if I could squeeze 4GHz :eek:

Failed, going for 1.325v, seems like the ticket :D Itching to go back to phase or homebrew water cooling again with this chip but time and money ain't on my side.
