Lane hogging.

This video always pops up in my mind when lane hogging threads come around:

NSFW due to language.

I know which video you posted. If you search for "Ronnie the ****** off trucker" on Youtube, some TV show did a little section on him. It's hilarious :D

Again, another morning of sitting in lane 1 at 50-55mph whilst a chain of morons sit in lane 3 at 45mph because the car at the front of the train won't move across an empty lane 2 into an empty lane 1. Makes my morning commute a lot easier anyway :p

This makes my commute easier too, especially when there is a near-stationary queue in the exact same place on the M27 every day, which is much longer in the middle lane, but people still refuse to leave the middle lane so I cruise past them in the rolling queue on the inside with the lorries. I pass at least 30 cars before I reach the end of the queue on the inside lane...

Worst are the new 4 lane sections, I swear 99% of drivers don't use lane 1, including trucks. Makes progress extremely easy, just use lane 1 sit at 70 and pass most of the other 3 lanes.

Trucks predominantly do use lane 1, the rather deep ruts in the road are proof of this, I am starting to notice more trucks using lane 3/4 (the outside one) these days (which is illegal for them to do so) I assume it's down to the large number of Eastern European drivers over here who are clueless or just don't care about our traffic laws.....

Incidentally I think speed limited vehicles shouldn't be allowed on the motorway.

70mph or higher.

Just lol, have you any idea how much that would increase the cost of goods across the board? - remember the vast vast majority of everything we use in day to day life travels at some point in a speed limited vehicle, namely a truck!
Never mind traffic congestion on non motorway routes and pollution from trucks running at far from their most efficient operating environment, think again Einstein!

Yeah that would NEVER work!

Go through any 50 mph average speed check zone, and watch all the lorries jump into the middle lane because they want to do 52mph.

The reason for this is simple, cars slow down to an indicated 50mph which in a calibrated HGV is usually roughly 47mph, the trucker is tied to limited driving time and delivery deadlines and needs to make progress and thus will keep to his 50mph which to a car driver appears like they are doing more than 50. :)

cobblers,

every HGV up here rattles through the average speed cameras doing at least 54, cant say I blame them if you can hold that extra 10% through a decent stretch say the 14 mile set on the M6 atm that's a good 2/3 minutes saved which when your limited in your hours i'd imagine can make or break your day if you do it a couple of times

If you are not overtaking when other people want to and you have space to your left that you could easily sit comfortably in then you are in the wrong. Everything else is justification for your own lack of awareness or courtesy to those around you, a boys in blue mindset, which is not (bar 1 or 2) your job or an arrogance of 'learning people good' who want to do something different to you and drive quicker than you. If you are in the middle/outside lane and nothing is in the lane to your left you are impacting traffic flow by reducing the overtaking lanes from 2 to 1 and you are a problem, even if you feel your able to justify it because you're doing 70mph, which doesn't make you right just another bad driver or worse, a driver with a bag of chips on their shoulder.

Move the **** over and stop being lazy.

Every time I pass a car with a digital dash display, if I'm on my limiter which is 55mph, invariably the cars display is reading around 58-60mph.

Indeed though maintaining a speed can be the difference between making it back within you driving hours, many a time I've stopped for a break with my tachograph reading 4hrs 29min (4:30 being the limit) or finished a shift on 8hrs 59min, 9hrs being the maximum allowed.

Smart motorways solve nothing, they aren't ran properly for them to help in anyway. I've spent many hours driving on them over thousands of miles and they are rubbish, not looking forward to having more of them. The M42 is a total nightmare every time I use it.

I understand the concept but no one seems to be watching what's going on and it just doesn't work.

IMO "smart" anything is just more trouble than it's worth.

Our motorways are already some of the safest roads in the world. They shouldn't start messing with it because it can only make it worse. They need to stop over-nannying everything to try and please the health and safety crowd.
