Laptop hard disk in a USB caddy?

I wonder if any of you can help me?

I have a laptop and it doesnt turn on, I think the mobo is dead. The thing is I need to retrieve all the data off of the laptop hard disk!

Is there something like a USB caddy that I plug into a PC with the hard disk in? How well do they work?

Or any other solutions! Much appreciated

If it's a SATA drive then you can just connect it up on a spare SATA port. No need to buy an enclosure for it.

If you think its dead, cant you just take it out and have a look? Cant really tell from that spec.

Wrt caddies, they are good, you could recycle the hdd as a backup drive maybe?

Ok, ive taken the hard disk out and it does have a SATA port, ive plugged it in, but not detecting, I guess it needs a power source?

Same as a normal SATA HDD i guess, one for data and one for the power, does you PSU have the SATA power connectors?
