laptop hdd arguments

One of my freind think of buying a laptop, just for basic uses, without any particular heavy application. I advise him do not care about the CPU, look for the cheapest that has 7200 rpm hdd as it seems to me, hdd in laptop and desktyop also is the bottleneck. He then suggested that hdd with faster movement is easier to be broken in a mobile environment like laptop. Consider laptop is a big investment for him, which argument is more plausible.

Hard drives are typically the slowest part of any modern system so your argument is fairly sound however even laptop hard drives are quite easy to replace nowadays. The argument about faster drives being more likely to break seems somewhat spurious, if it would break a 7200rpm drive the chances are that it would also break a 5400/4200rpm drive. That they will probably get hotter which is the main argument against them but even that is a fairly small amount.

What CPU he would need depends on what tasks he intends to do and also how much Ram he would require.

Althought nor completely relevant, the external hdd always have less warranty time than internal one.Laptop itself tends to have less warranty time than desktop. Unstability does reduce the life time of computer components, not to mention hdd.
