Hi.
Im thinking of buying something, either a laptop or a telly.

The laptop would be to replace my Thinkpad Z60M, and the one im looking at, a Dell M1330, whilst smaller lighter and more powerful, ive got my doubts over its usefulness for typing on it.
Plus the fact that im none to keen on using it at work where i spend 90% of my team. It'd basically be one i'd use around the house when im home when i cant be bothered with my main PC.

The telly would be a 42"+ jobbo to replace my 26" Sammy.
Purpose? I'd like true 1080p and 24p processing, a bigger screen so i can enjoy games/films more, and an excuse to get a blueray player. :p.

Both would roughly come to the same price.

Thoughts?

I was in Tesco last night and they are selling at 42" LG 1080P plasma for £599. I was going to get but understanably they are out of stock. On the website it shows as over £700 so not sure if it is an instore pricing mistake but the woman did not seem to think so but she also could not tell me when it would be back in.

this is the online link

I have TV on my laptop using one of these

Edit: oops link was a competitor, search for Magic BOX USB

:D

Im not more excited over either tbh.
I like the looks/features i can get from a M1330, it looks cool, its high specced, and could come in useful.

The telly would be good also, but i'd want one with very specific specifications, and no doubt the larger size would heat up my very small room even faster than my current 26".

think tbh if room is that small a very large tv might over power it, but then you say lappy is only for browsing doing stuff when you can't be bothered to switch on main desktop, i'd be more inclined to go for tv

Knock a bit off your TV price and use the spare cash to buy an EeePC for casual browsing. Job done.

I find a laptop more useful than a TV but a nice TV is damn good for gaming on...

I was just browsing through a catalogue, and finally found the perfect telly
Its 1080p. It does 100hz. It does 24p. And its a good size:
sony bravia kdl-40d3500u
Browsing around the net can see it on sale for £800. £400 cheaper than i was willing to go. :D.
##EDIT##
Just looked further, can get for £700!

Only problem is, that with the Telly, DVDs are watched through my PC as my DVD player plays things out of sync, and my PC is pretty noisy.
And at the moment, bar MP3 which im about to complete, i have no games to play on said telly.

Basically both options have large disadvanges and are more of 'want' purchases rarther than 'need' purchases.

play dvds through your new laptop that you get with the money you save then.
1.2k can get you a good laptop and a 1080p tv easily.

idd what features.
You can find 42" 1080p ones without all the frills and fancys for sub 700 easily.
Laptop with what specs? Dell vostros, sub 500, decent screens, core2duos, 3gb ram, 8600gts.

Get the KDL-40V3000, only £50 more and looks better, has an extra hdmi port and slightly better pic the the D3500. I helped my brother in law choose one on saturday.

As for the laptop, I have an M1330 and it is brilliant. My only gripe is that I had to us dell xps support which was great in that it was on site and next day, but annoying that I had to use it at all.

If I had to choose, I would get a TV if your current lappy is enough for what you want. Also, the 40V3000 is available as a package with the 20S3000 lcd FOR £899 plus delivery with a 3 year warranty, which is excellent value, you can get John Lewis to pricematch that so can get a 5 year warranty.

is 24p really that important?
Yes.

Why would i want 2 TVs though?
Plus, the KDL-40V3000 doesnt have the 100hz option.
