hi

im having big problems with my laptop, it keeps locking up when turning on and then randomly locking at other stages , i basically can not use it?

im trying to re-install windows xp as i did have it on vista but when i can get to the xp install stage it again just locks up while installing.

could this be some sort of hardware problem?

im really lost:confused:

cheers

hi, it sounds like the hard drive to me but it could be a few other things also.
you could try one of the versions of linux that runs from the cd and that may tell you if its just the hard drive or something else.

thanks will try that if it does'nt jam ive just updated bios but still seems to jam up but i have at least managed to get xp installed

thanks again

hi again

well so far after getting xp back on and up to date its running fine.

my only problem is everything is a bit laggy since i changed the resolution?

Has it got a Nvidia chip set? There are a lot of reports of them failing causing the G/CPU to overheat, throttle down and shut down.

Well at least you've managed to get a OS installed!!

Are you using a resolution above or below your supported native screen size resolution?

GPU installed? may need driver update?

Last time one of my laptops played up with similar symptoms i re sat the CPU with some thermal paste think it was arctic silver 5.
Since then it worked great till my GF stood on the screen lol.

hi guys

in the end the lag was caused because i had forgot about installing my graphics card driver , all ok now

ive got my laptop up to date now and all seems good ,the lockups seem to have gone , so dont really know the cause of that?
