Large potential terrorism event avoided

Lol a 10,000 strong religious event is suspicious because... Islam?

Its laughable isn't it.

I hope this ends up being idiots saying idiot things online and some other idiots just doing something, well idiotic.

When large crowds are gathered a panic can be more devastating than a direct action.
(people falling over and getting trampled etc)

Saw a bit more detail on the nature of the arrests

Eight of the 12 were detained under section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000, including:
  • A 27-year-old man arrested in Surrey on July 12
  • A 35-year-old man arrested in the Greater Manchester area on July 12
  • A 31-year-old man arrested in east London on July 13
  • A 42-year-old man arrested in Essex on July 12
  • A 42-year-old man arrested in Essex on July 12
  • A 33-year-old man arrested in southeast London on July 13
  • A 29-year-old man arrested in Surrey on July 12
  • A 27-year-old man arrested in Ipswich on July 12
Three other men, aged 55, 60 and 82 were arrested in Surrey on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

A 48-year-old woman was arrested in east London on suspicion of assisting an offender.

So does give some credence to the idiots thing I say above.

Also it seems someone "infiltrated" the gathering and posted some stuff online that was lies and that this triggered some right wingers to be discussing going there.

Wouldn't surprise me if there was found to be a Russian connection somewhere in the murky depths of this plot.

It's exactly the kind of thing they're trying to Fan the flames of on UK soil.

Nothing wrong with religion, as long as you keep it to yourself and not try and impose your beliefs on other people.

Is there a difference?

Exactly, religion is entirely properganda. Especially the big ones.

Not really. It may be used by the state in that way occasionally, but they are fundamentally different. Religion is an organic system of community, morality, and existential meaning built over millennia, where as propaganda is just a deliberate tool used to manipulate public opinion for specific gains.

Now it's social media + algorithms

They're just the latest distribution network for propaganda, and look to be one of the most effective.

I don't particularly want Islam here, and this gathering seems super sus to me and I want that to be investigated, but yeah you can't be plotting to kill 10k people.

I wonder what's been the better brainwasher over the previous century, religion or propaganda?

The UK Ljima:

An event authorised by the Mid Suffolk District Council alongside Suffolk Police, Suffolk Fire and Rescue, Environmental Health and the directors of Shrubland Estate from whom the land was leased.

An event banned in many countries including Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

Country’s citing their reasons:-

Banned having been called a gateway to terrorism.

Banned because of its secret activities and rigid teaching deemed a danger to society.

Banned because of its linked to terrorism, extremist ideology and national security concerns.

Concerns expressed about aspects of its organisation, teachings, or the potential for its gatherings to be exploited by extremist recruiters.

So I'd agree with @throwaway4372, why such an event is allowed to take place when it's banned in many countries, mainly ones of the Islamic faith, have banned it due to significant, credible links to terrorism. The UK event is said to have had 15,000 attendees, that's 15,000 potential terrorists right here on UK soil.

And here is an example of propaganda (or an opinion based on such), right on time.

A bit of research would help you understand the reason they were banned by those specific authoritarian regimes. Those governments heavily restrict or ban any massive public gathering they cannot directly control, it is a matter of political self-preservation for them, not counter terrorism.

Tablighi Jamaat is strictly an apolitical, pacifist movement focused entirely on personal spirituality. Labelling "15,000" peaceful attendees as "potential terrorists" relies on a massive logical leap designed purely to stoke fear.

e: just to add some further context on why security agencies monitor their gatherings, and around your statement "potential for its gatherings to be exploited by extremist recruiters" - radical extremist recruiters seek out individuals who have recently become highly devout but are frustrated by Tablighi Jamaat's complete lack of political action, peeling them away into violent extremism.

It was the irony yesterday with these arrests compared with Starmers final acts of funding more policing on Jewish folks protection,
maybe burnham will redress that, but limited access to european policing data probably not helping both.

Is this national news, keeps cropping up locally but I'm not sure anything is national, haven't seen anything
Thousands of people (nearly 10k) and 12 arrests nationally

I've seen it reported might have been BBC news site. Doesn't seem to be getting much attention for some reason maybe other significant deaths taking the limelight right now.

All religious buildings, churches, mosques, etc nationalised via CPOs and tuned into sustainable housing and other useful things.

Do you know how many homeless and people in need are fed weekly just by Gurdwaras here in the UK? Careful making such lazy statements.
