Laser Eye Surgery !

i had mine done last year, it didn't hurt at all. For about 7-8 hours afterwards my eyes just felt really tired and i couldn't keep them open. After that they where sensitive to light for a day and that was it.

You can't smell burning when they do, that is just what lasers smell like. I believe its ionisation of the air that makes the odd smell.

The most annoying thing in my opinion is the fact that you can't get water or touch your eyes for 2 weeks which i found difficult. Plus you have to tape these stupid things over your eyes while you sleep.

My eyes are better now than they where when i had glasses on. I can get 2 below 20/20 on my left eye and 1 below on the right.

I can't remember which one i went for but it was the one with multiple lasers and no metal work near my eye.

Wear glasses myself and apart from Moorfields Eye Hospital personally wouldn't even think of having it anywhere else. Could never take the risk with my eyes elsewhere. Am staying away from having it now though, probably leave it for another 5-10 years and by then hopefully we will know for sure about the long term effects and they will probably have better ways of doing it then as well.

I've had stitches removed with laser and some of the scar tissue/membrane removed from my eye.

The second time I have had it done It helped clear my vision up again since having my lense implants but I am now left with a lot of floaters! The bits that broke off the membrane are just going to stay in my eye now forever, the biggest bits have sunk to the bottom and they will stay there but everything else is a lovely grey blob.

But, it has changed it from virtually blind at 13 to being able to see fine.

Granted my proceedure was slightly different as I had lense implants but I've still had the pew pew in my eye.

Cheers for this thread, i'll pass it onto my mum, shes having her consultency for it tonight, and is pretty much going for it, after years of tempting it.

Cheers for the good remarks and stuff she should be aware of for it.

! Sounds horrible, hope everything is okay with that.

The idea of someone messing with my eyes worries the hell out of me, I am squeamish when it comes to eyes.

Imo contacts are the way forward.

Unfortunately glasses or contacts wouldn't have helped me as I was born with cataracts!

I've had some painful eye experiences but the pain was worth being able to see again afterwards!

Although I physically cannot focus, it just isn't possible. This can be a bit annoying but not a laser issue!

I'm -2.73 and -3.25 and I wear contacts every day, only costs me £10 a month and I get on fine with them, was previously on dailys which I couldn't get comfortable with but monthly ones are fine. I have much better vision with contacts as I have the full field of view. I may consider laser eye surgery at some point in the future when I can afford it.

Thankfully I dont need it as my vision is spot on at the moment, but I think i'd have it done - I've only talked to 1 person who had it done, a semi-pro paintballer, so I reckon he knew the value of eyes!

Still, I think for my own piece of mind I'd probably want to have 1 eye done at once... just incase of that 0.01% chance of something going wrong.

Just been for my Day 1 Checkup.

Everything healing nicely. Already through the blur they can see that I have at least 20/20 vision.

Result

My perscription before the surgery was pretty mild and mostly caused by Astigmatism
Something like -2.25 in the Right and -1.25 in the left.

My advice to you would be just keep wearing contacts as long as you can so you've got a nice long period with no change of prescription. They're making progress with eye laser surgery all the time so the longer you can leave it the better the procedure will be :)

Agreed, if you have found contacts that are comfortable, stick with them.

I went for surgery because I couldn't get on with contacts. Astigmatism contacts are nasty. They've got weights at the bottom to keep them in place.

My perscription hasn't changed since I was 18 (now 28) so Surgery seemed a good idea.

for both eyes?
using which method?
Did you find out about the laws and the healthcare over there? or did you just go for it.

Yes both eyes although it is a bit more expensive now especially considering the pound against the euro.

Private healthcare over there is better than here. The hospital I had mine done I've never seen anything like it and the surgeon I had is world renown. I had Intralase Lasik. My boss and friends have had it done so that's why I went there. They offer a package but it is cheaper to sort out the hotels, etc yourself.

I went for the top end treatment - Custom Wavefront Intralase. I didn't need to have the top, but when your talking something big like your eyes I went for the best.

Intralase creates the flap with a Laser and not a Blade, leading to a reduce risk of complications.

It's worked out at £2700 for my perscription.

Ta for the reply. I have a slight astigmatism in both eyes and am about -4.5 in the left and 3.25 in the right.

I'm 29 now, so seriously considering surgery. Did you take out finance? or save up?

I took out the finance. If times weren't as tough I'd have gone for the 10 months 0% APR. Instead I opted for three years at 9%. With my contacts cancelled it'll work out at £40 per month for three years (contacts where 30/month).

Bargin if you ask me.
