Last piece of Tech that made you go "WOW!!"?

You got me freaked out now:( if the worst came to the worst and they did go into administration before i got the refund would it mean im screwed!?!?!

I don't believe he is talking about that shop.
You need a cup of tea to chill out. :D
You wouldn't be screwed anyway, warranty would be done through manufacturer.

Edit: Can't say there have been too many WOW! moments, if any, recently.
Everything is just a bit faster than the setup I had before.

The move from onboard sound to an Audigy 1 was a wow moment, sound quality was much better. Can't even remember how long ago that was though!

So many people think their new SSD is what's made the PC feel fast all of a sudden. When in actual fact it's just because it's had a fresh install of Windows. If they did a fresh install on a decent mechanical drive, it would feel almost as snappy!

A fresh install on a decent Sata drive feels very snappy as is. Everything loads in less than a second and windows open almost immediately. What more do you really want or need!!

SSD's are great for viewing thousands of photos in albums etc and keeping noise/power consumption down. People just brainwash themselves into thinking it's amazing to justify the large price tag.

Where they are great though, is laptops! Improves battery life, ables you to tilt the laptop and move it around with wrecking the mechanical disk and also it is a big improvement over a cheapo 5400rpm drive.

My "wow, this is better than I was expecting" purchase was an iPod touch... absolutely loved it, until I dropped it down the toilet :(

And I completely disagree.

I've done block level copies to SSDs and the difference is night and day in both OS X and W7.

Even going from a 300GB VR to a 160GB X25-M was a HUGE jump in performance.

Best purchases I have ever made, SSDs.

The real test is when you have two identical laptops next to each other and people who know nothing about computers go WOW, thats fast.

XMI X-MINI 2! I dont believe nobody has mentioned these...

I first bought one about 3 years ago now i think, once i had it at home i was super eager to open it to see if the rumors on the internet were true. It was really an incredible moment, i plugged it into my ipod touch(also one of my WOW purchases) and the sound from such a small speaker was just unbelievable. it gave me goose pimples all over and that was it, i found myself using at all the time to enhance audio from my dell vostro laptop, huge difference. Took it to school, fantastic there too.

Merely from using it and playing music through it, i had caused 3 people to buy them!

Moving on from there i headed to university where i used it all the time while cooking in the communal kitchen. 2 more people then bought it as a result of hearing it there!

This little speaker, for about £13, is unbelievable. Sadly many people have made cheap rubbish imitations if it now but if you want decent audio on th move, XMI X-mini 2 is the place to go!:D

WTF!?!?! its about to go into administration? do you know when this will be happening because i just got a P8Z68-V from them, yes im ashamed to admit it but i had a substantial discount because of a voucher and didnt want to be without a PC whilst waiting for my RMA replacement from OCUK so i took another members advice and just bought another one(means i wouldnt need to reinstal windows because its the same model)
It was to replace the one i bought from here as i beleived it to be faulty and found out after a day that the new one didnt make a difference to the problems im having and now im waiting the 5-7 days for them to refund the cash back to the card i used to buy it,i just took it back today:eek:

I believe he meant the high street shop with the purple logo that sells a lot of GAMEs *cough*, and not the purple shirt place.

Wroooong purple. I'm talking purple store, not purple shirts. Evilpaul hit the mark :L

Another one here for SSDs, I've been wowed going from a Q6600 and GTX260 to my new rig below (with an OC which I've never done before) but the SSDs have everything going for them at the moment except capacity.

At work we now get Dell PCs with SSDs as standard, which I've been waiting for since SSDs first appeared. Our self built PCs at home are one thing, but business PCs in a business environment is completely different, and after a year or so they all degrade in performance greatly.

As a test we took a 6 year old Optiplex GX620 that took 12mins to get to IE from power on (old mechanical HDD) and put in a 64GB Crucial M4 which then took 2mins to do the same task. The staff at work moan about the PCs being crap, but actually for Office applications and WinXP (sigh) the Pentium 4 and 2GB memory is more than enough, it was just the HDDs holding it back which is something I kept banging on about over the years (people would just throw money at the latest Dell Optiplex with mechanical disk and wonder why it wasn't much faster than their old PC)

It was either the Q6600 or the 5770, considering the performance they gave (and still give to an extent) in games on a budget. They've been lasting me a while!

Maybe it was old and slow but I've done many fresh installs on SATA HDDs and none have been as fast at loading/booting on my SSD. So I disagree there. Your sig though, I do agree with.

I've got your back bud

and as he states that's a "slow" SSD. I don't get why people complain over the price......how many of you can remember when sata HDDs were "new tech" and how much they cost new?

My first HTC touchscreen smartphone was the last thing i was genuinely impressed with. This was before the original iphone was even released! Being able to watch movies stored to a memorycard, and run emulators to play classic games from retro consoles on the move was pretty cool....i still have that HTC himalaya to this day, albeit as a backup tomtom satnav, ok i flashed the ROM to help keep it upto date but that's not bad going for an 8 year old phone lol

Although not technically a single piece of kit, using a setup similar to what is coming up in the next video link was the last time i said "WOW" to myself.

Oh I agree with the above on LA Noire, I hope they re-use this tech for future games as it makes the game much more impressive and enjoyable. I was hoping the new Max Payne would use it but so it doesn't seem so which is disappointing, I'm guessing the new GTA won't use it either but I don't think anything has been said on the subject.

Quantic Dream who develop for the PS3 used it for a recent tech demo, and again it looked great but they develop under Sony :(

The only genuine "WOW " I can think of was plugging in my Voodoo 2 card and loading up Quake II. Nothing has ever come close to that moment for pure, mind-boggling, amazement.

Then again, I've been using PCs every day for the past 22 years, so most things are just incremental improvements.

Hardware 3D acceleration though.....that was a massive leap forward in a very short space of time.

386 to P75
how easy it was to overclock my E6750 (my first intel core 2)
ATI9500pro (my first decent graphics card after years of cheapo cards)
Going from ATI2900pro to a 8800GT
Raptor to an Intel SSD

Laserdiscs. I use to own a Pioneer player and it made VHS and S-VHS players look silly.
The 12" silver and gold disks were my last "Wow" moment with tech stuff.. before that was the Commodore Amiga.

Everything these days is just the same old thing respun and made either faster or smaller or with more resolution or more bandwidth or newer codecs..

In the past I would love running around the tech shops and now I just feel disappointed everytime I go into such shops only to find it's the same old thing and nothing that grabs me and says buy me.

Wireless for me.

Was going to say broadband over dial up, punched the air the day i found out i could get cable (6kbs over 512) some leap....

Everytime something else up connects up to the wireless, i bless it's existance:)

My switch from console to pc back in '09 and having an awesomely fast 5770 and Phenom II X2 555 that could play anything I thrown at it :D.

Then there was buying a proper monitor to play on, can't remember the model but the detail and brightness was amazing compared to a 32" TV I had to use at the time.
