Latest GT5 info

In febs issue of OPM UK there is a big feature on GT5, some people have got hold on an early copy and have released some scans of the mag.
Looks like some of the fetures mentioned before have been confirmed and a few others included, from the info from the mag we have,

- Deformation for every car in the game although race cars will see even more damage
- First screens of GT5's night racing
- 1,000+ vehicles, all with modeled interiors
- Up to 16 players online
- Indy cars and tracks will be included
- Head tracking is reconfirmed and it's for use during racing
- Multi display is back (using 3 PS3's for a wider view)
- HD uploads to YouTube
- Weather
- Night racing for all tracks

So as well as those we have Nascar, WRC, and japanese GT racing championships to play with. They sure have gone a bit further than i thought they would with what they are putting into this game, more than it needed TBH. Not having read the article im hoping that these are facts from PD rather than a wish list or list of unconfirmed stuff thats been mentioned before. Looks like it could be the definitive definitive racing game of this Gen :D

This all sounds so good, and I hope it works out, i really do, all the features etc.. are there, only 2 things that bother me.

No word yet on tuning, level of modding/tunes/painting etc.. must be something, surely?

I just hope the engine feels better in the final build, I know I have said it time and time again, but just want to have the driving physics feel more planted, real and, yes...as its me...Forza-esque!

Car modding will be in of course as it is one of the big selling points, one quote i saw is that it will be like an actual car tuning website (with out the naughty pics of birds lol). Not sure if this means you search by car/upgrade type and it lists what you can do or just a specific one eg a nismo site that shows each car and what you can do in a particular area. I would doubt they would want you to paint on there awesome looking cars though lol.
Im the opposite with Forza 3, i find it all to easy to drive any car and pretty much unrealistic, but great fun as its fun to drive, perhaps its all down to me not using a wheel for Forza like i do with GT5P. Had a long time scooby owner come round and play GT5P on my new wheel he was amazed at how right his scooby handled, the car reacted exactly as he predicted under braking, accelerating etc, the only thing he missed was the feedback from the road through his pedals and that hitting stuff didnt behave as it should.

Reading that the multiscreen feature is now confirmed and with head tracking included has made me very happy. Gives me the enthausiam to work again on my d.i.y sim frame.
I was fearing with others that GT5 may not include this.

As for tuning the game will allow tuning of the cars GT5P already offered this
Modding and upgrades with realworld components or brands will be included going by past interviews but to what level or depth we dont know.
This all reads as rather "definative" doesnt it :p

I don't understand the headtracking...

I assume it means where you turn your head is where the camera will go?

If that's the case, what's the point if you are moving your head to the side but still need to look at the screen to see where its shifting to?!

NO it uses accelation and already this has been supported on PC sims for quite sometime with track ir. You dont have to turn your head much.

PS3 Eye is actually very advanced as it tracks your face and not sensors on a cap etc like track ir.
This will possbily also track full freemovement, forward/aft,pitch,roll within the cockpit.

So for example if you lift your head, or move it closer to the screen, tilt it etc the appropiate movement happens within the 3D cockpit.
Go closer to the screen it will be like moving your head closer to the windscreen.

Combine this 3D movement via realtime headtracking with upcoming Stereoscopic 3D and we have something pretty special being possible.

Look on you tube for track ir videos to give you an idea.

Isnt it a bit of a gimmick though?

I understand the benefit - but if you have the mirrors angled correctly, you shouldnt need to move your head in the first place

( I do love the idea of a lot of the other newer bits confirmed though)

Posted the example below on GTP.
If Head Tracking works on GT5 the way it does on other games.
The PS3 Eye is about £20 so well worth it and people are likely to buy it anyways as it is needed for the upcoming "wii style" 3D Controller.

Head tracking will to an extent give people the ability to move their vision across effectively what a 3 screen user sees but of couse at one screen width at a time.
This is benificial coming upto corners as your now going to be able to see apexs before you normally would on a single fixed screen position. Look at the screen below.
You can clearly see the apex on the right hand screen and the two actual ghost cars.
Head tracking would allow you to effectively see this by looking into the upcoming apex and the horizontal view slide over to the right.
The red frame illustrates what a single screen would likely show with head tracking.
The centre screen shows what you normally would see in a game and without head tracking.

...but you'd still have to buy and run 3 PS3s with 3 monitors!!

It works for a single screen too, as the above example demonstrates.

I think I'm most looking forward to weather in GT5 if they do implement it. Why so many racing games dont offer it baffles me. Head tracking and 3D etc. is nice, but I doubt I'd ever actually use it.

What Mr Latte linked shows how your view would change if you had only 1 screen and head tracking. Obviously the 3 screen setup will be better but the head tracking seems to give good benefit to 1 screen setup.

Of course this is if it works as expected and isn't some gimmicky pap.

Here is a good example of headtracking
Track Ir on GRID (Pc Version)

We do not know yet if the PS3 GT5 version will be the same.
However the technology easily allows this to be so.

In theory you could lean forward and look directly out the side wing mirrors as your track movements are related to your position with the 3D cockpit space.

Definitely going to be ordering the PS3 eye and GT5 together, not sure controller wise, if the cross battle adapter pro supports anlogue levels for triggers, then I'll upgrade my standard XBA to that! :)

Before I tried head tracking I was the biggest critic. "My screen is infront of my, why would I want to turn my head?!" "I can just use my mouse/thumbstick and not pay out £££ for the head gear." "I can't be ****ed to move, I just want to sit back and loaf when I play."

Then I tried a friends TrackIR with IL2 (IL2 is a WW2 Flight sim for those who don't know).

Headtracking is immense in simulation games. I've been using a TrackIR in sims (flying, driving, and other) with my PC sims for years and I really can't do without it anymore. Just simple things like glancing to your left/right when approaching a corner to check you aren't going to collide with someone is priceless, even if only for the immersion. Your car mirrors show what is behind you, not what is to the left/right. It's also unnatural to use your finger/thumb (on thumbstick) to look around when you can just use your head to do it.

Seriously consider headtracking where ever you can use it. If a friend has it, give it a go/borrow it. If you see a stall in an expo or something, give it a go. It really, really is worth it.
