Clean your sensor, it's filthy!! :p

Never realised! I am kind of scared about cleaning it! Could it be that my extreme manipulation caused that graininess?

I suppose I better test at f/22 to see just how grimey it is!

Nope. Plane pic clearly shows lots of filth marks.

Sensors are easy peasy to clean :) Nothing to be scared about. Just get the kit and gerrit sorted!!

Okay fine!

I will go down to my local dealers and get a medium blower brush.

Then I will go to my camera menu, select 'clean CCD' squeeze the brush and hope I have enough battery power to complete the clean! Then switch it off, and try my camera out on the sky or another blank canvas before trying again!

Personally the extreme processing doesn't work for me. I enjoy the composure of the church shot.

How come the shutter speeds are all so low? Were you shooting at night? Looks like day time clouds but can't really tell

Cheers for the comments and critique!

I had a Hoya R72 infra red filter on my 50mm lens when I took shot numbers two to five but I had no tripod (and still have no tripod) so I used a combination of really slow shutter speeds (not enough to cause camera shake) a high ISO and hand held them all. The shed shots (two to four) are from my local park and there was really harsh sunlight when they were being taken.

aahh ok makes more sense now.

I feel the effect would work better if it was less harsh and you could keep a greater level of detail. the church still seems fairly sharp but the shed shots just seem a too soft. all imo of course :)

Hope I'm not going to seem too harsh but:

1. empty skies - bit of a bland composition.
2. would work better with more landscape in shot, and more focused, it seems really unsharp
3. no offence but that nearly made me cry, it looks smeared over with blur.
4. might work better in black and white with better focus, less grainy; with more of a hollywood style theme
5. nice photo but not too keen on the bluey purple banding within the church, shame about the grainyness too because it looks quite nice.

Sorry but yeh.

Well I have been a little busy :D

Just cleaned my sensor...with a blower brush..only to find there is a murcy dot on my TFT which just will not disappear! There was me thinking it had something to do with stubborn dirt on my sensor!

Anyway, I did a bit less editing and came out with these two:

Went through Noiseware filter with this one.

That padlock on the shed.

As for the critique - I did intend to get the results you all can see on the original post but I always had a thought on the back of my mind that went "Far too much messing in RawShooter"

I would not call any of your comments harsh...just honest, which is always good and very helpful to the learning photographer! :)

Please don't clean it with a blower brush. Blower brushes make baby Jesus weep :( (plus you'll probably end up with more dust than you started with). Get the proper kit: Eclipse fluid (£7.99), pec pads (£5.99) & a SensorSwipe (from http://www.pbase.com/copperhill/ccd_cleaning) and do it properly. This will give you enough stuff to clean your sensor merrily until you're about 60 :)

Okay, I did the clean and ended up with less dust  Maybe I was just lucky!

But I will give it a proper clean tomorrow with the proper equipment.

That first one is a lot better, still not too sure about the padlock though?

Yeah - the padlock is lacking something... I will have another play:

Possibly so, yeah :) Cleaning your sensor with a blower brush isn't the best idea though. Sorry if you think I'm being picky etc., I'm not. It's important and you should do it properly because it's the crucial part of the camera. It's worth it in the long run, trust me :)

If you have any issues getting hold of cleaning equipment, give me a shout!

Not sure if its my screen or not, does my sensor look very dirty?

My screen is not colour calibrated, so I can't really tell how bad it shows.

look at the tail of the plane.

there's at least three big dust bunnies on there and maybe a hot pixel on the front of the plane too?

I have tons of dust on my sensor but I just clean it up in PS along with the other adjustments until I can get around to cleaning the sensor properly - probably once every 6 months.
