Law against Hate Speech etc etc etc...

Whatever happened to the 'sticks and stones' saying?

I think society evolved from the Victorian times.
Slander and Liable law saw that phrase dead a long time ago.

I guess crap parents, mostly dads, still say it when their kid is getting mentally destroyed at school.

There's been a thing on Twitch lately where some users are simply posting the comment 'kill all ...'. I think that is plainly unacceptable.

It's not right to allow anything to be published or publicly said. The laws that exist mostly began without any thought of a coming internet age. Legislative systems are quite twisted up trying to formulate a response.

You don't subscribe to it then? Slander and libel are nothing to do with being offended. They are spoken and written misrepresentations that may lead to material loss or tarnished image.

I think it's a very outdated saying.
I think it stems from times when men were socially frowned upon to show any emotional reaction.
If you wanna live in a society where.people are like Vulcans and just don't react to 24h mental abuse that's fair enough.
I however doubt you personally, or anyone that agrees with "sticks and stones" would last long to 24/7 sustained psychological attack, for use of a better set of words.

What would I change the saying, sticks and stones will break my bones to?

Err I have no idea.

"Drunken ABH events and baseball bats will break my bones but mental abuse and torment on social media will never cause me physical, visual wounds, the only type a man can understand, will never hurt me"

It's not very catchy.

All it's going to be is a constant stream of left-whingers reporting any comments they don't agree with.
All it's going to be is a constant stream of right wingers moaning about left wingers.

Every thread. Every damn thread. Bunch of "right wingers" whining about "left wingers".

yeah unless your in Guantanamo you aren't being subjected to 24/7 abuse.

you realise you completley ruin any point you had with such stupid hyperbole?

"if people are being asshats, click block"

done

If that is going to be the case, then the comments they "don't agree with" would have to be considered hate speech under German law.

And if they are, then the person who said them should have thought about that.

And if they aren't and they get reported, they have nothing to worry about.

"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but thankfully they were all removed after I complained about them on Facebook. Whilst words cannot directly cause me physical harm, nevertheless all words can offend me, or make me feel victimised, belittled, or helpless. Glad I am, therefore, that a number of safe spaces are available to me whenever I feel emotionally fragile."

I think that's the 2017 version of "sticks and stones".

Goign to stop you right there because the rest doesn't make sense given this lie. [..]

A nice try at evading the point by proclaiming your ignorance is truth. But you're both factually wrong and displaying your inability to make any counter-argument. I think you know that and that's why you omitted my reference to the response when what you call a lie happened. In reality. In the UK.

I'm pretty new when it comes to all this "safe space" crap so I'm going to slowly back out of this thread, as it collapses in on itself under the usual weight of sjw, this and that, bs.
