Hi All

With my lawn quickly becoming a jungle I need to get myself a new lawnmower and my parents have said they'd pay for it up to about £80.

My lawn is pretty lumpy and bumpy, so I had been thinking a hover type would be good. I did borrow my brothers hover mower and it did a great job even over the bumps.

Anyone have any suggestions for a decent mower in budget?

Btw I want it to be electric as it is safer to use and keep with having a little boy.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

I shall bare that in mind.

One thing I did just think was that I don't really want one that makes stripes, or rather if there was something maybe removable because at the moment the lawn is so uneven it would look terrible with stripes...

Only a cylinder mower or a mower with a rear roller will create stripes. Any normal 4 wheel rotary mower will just cut normally

A lot of the ones I've looked at in the price range have had a roller, will have to me sure it has wheels.

go for a 2nd hand petrol mower

Nope, as mentioned in my op, I want electric as it's safer while I've got a little boy.

Electric are far more dangerous! Youve got a cable to contend with and blades! Ill give you 2 weeks before you cut that cable in half! Petrol are far easier and safer, not to mention better quality. As Rotty stated, electric would be far easier for him to press a button and get it going.

Depends on what electric one though. Cos on mine you need to press and hold down one button before the power switch is pressed to drive the blades. Don't think valves wee lad will be able to figure that out yet :p

As has been said most require hold one button then hit another to get it started, which he won't manage.

I've used enough electric lawnmowers to know that there's a lead an it's simple job to keep it out of the way.

I was actually thinking more from the viewpoint of storing things like petrol etc which is not really something I want to have about!!

So, back to my original request, any suggestions of a decent £80 electric mower?

Keep an eye out for the Bosch Rotak Ergoflex range. The 36/37cm ones are normally on offer at around £80.

yup I just got a Bosch Rotak 370 Ergoflex from BnQ, its an exclusive model number but have confirmed with bosch its exactly the same as the 37 and carries same warranty :) £100 -15% and a few quid cashback on top. Normally takes an hour+ to do the garden, just finished it in 20mins :)

What sort of size is it? I'm after something fairly compact so as not to take up too much room in the shed.

And is it any good for bumpy uneven lawns?

Thats a link to all the bosch ones on the bandq site. I can measure the length of the 370 tonight after I've had my dinner. I've got mine across the width of my shed and theres still a bit of room beside it so storage shouldn't be too much of an issue

The £80 petrol mowers are rubbish, good engines but everything else is cheap stamped crap.

I bought a s/h Briggs and Stratton self propelled for that 6 years ago and it's still going strong, starts first pull every time.

On safety I'd be more worried about any mower flicking things at kiddy eye level than anything else, when I'm mowing kids stay indoors I've had stones in the shins and it's pretty painful let alone in the eye.
