Lawnmower recommendations - £80 to spend...

I bought a s/h Briggs and Stratton self propelled for that 6 years ago and it's still going strong, starts first pull every time.

On safety I'd be more worried about any mower flicking things at kiddy eye level than anything else, when I'm mowing kids stay indoors I've had stones in the shins and it's pretty painful let alone in the eye.

I have a Brigg & Stratton, bought it s/h complete with a aerator attachment, about 8 years ago, but it must be at least 15 years old, still starts first pull.

And I always wear safety specs when mowing, had stones thrown up more than once over the years.

So would it be much shorter with the handle folded down (i think that's possible isn't it?) and the grass box taken off and stacked on top?

The handle is fixed in two places with screws. One at the main unit and again half way up the length of the handles. So folding isn't an option. Would be a pain dismantling the handles after each time you use it.

Hmmm, the pics show it as having quick release type attachments in the middle of the handle to allow the handle to be released quickly and easily for folding, is that not the case?

yeah it does have the quick release / screwed half way down. Guess it could be used for a more compact storage (sits at same level as rear of grass) I'll take another measurement this evening when I'm back home for you.

Cheers, that would be very much appreciated!

I need to get one ordered fairly soon before I end up needing a scythe to cut it, can't believe how much it has grown in the last 3 weeks, some bits are nearly a foot tall!!

folded the handles down and it reduces it from 1.27m in length down to 1.1 m in length so a bit of a saving overall.

EDIT

Realised as well that I've got the handles up the wrong way now as well :p

Cheers for your help. I ended up going along to the local b&q and had a good look at it. Tis a nice mower!

Sadly they didn't have any in stock and wouldn't sell the display model, so I've got one coming in hopefully friday.

I wouldn't mind but I'm only 34, I should really be enjoying going out, partying but instead I find myself spending hours reading reviews of power tools I'd like and researching lawnmowers...and thoroughly enjoying it!!! lol

I've been looking at all sorts of tools I have no real need for (BRAD air nailers for example) and find it fascinating and am looking forward to buying more tools.

I guess it's cos we've just moved to a house that needs a lot of diy done to it, so rather than doing it I'm looking at the tools and things I would use and imagining it all being done!!! lol

Always rely on my trusty 20oz claw hammer for years, but I'm getting a urge for a brad nailer & a new sliding mitre saw.
My shed is overflowing with tools of all kinds, got another 9" Hitachi grinder & a 6" Bench grinder off Freecycle, both virtually brand new.

Drawers full of plumbing, electrical fittings from Freecycle & skips, even on holiday, I can't resist having a poke around in a skip.:o

Lol, I'm not quite that bad....yet....

That said I have a vast collection of leads and wires for all sorts of things, huge amounts of power cables, etc etc and I mean loads, several boxes worth. I hate throwing away cables as you never know when they might come in handy!!!

Also I have begun collecting tools (with a view to using them at some point) and am seriously considering starting a collection of Ryobi One + tools as there are lodas that take the same batteries so I can just get a set of batteries then the rest of the tools are pretty cheap...and by all accounts will cope with my light diy use!!! :)
